HR Trainee Position

Location: Aviation Park West, Bournemouth Airport

Curtiss-Wright's HR department in the UK functions as a Shared Service across three divisions, catering to approximately 500 personnel. We are in search of a motivated and organized individual eager to embark on a fulfilling career in Human Resources. The chosen candidate will become a part of our HR team in our state-of-the-art facility adjacent to Bournemouth Airport. Curtiss-Wright is a well-established organization that has been a pioneer in the aviation industry. The company has since diversified into various sectors and acquired Penny & Giles, a local firm, in 2002.

We seek a candidate who has recently completed their GCSEs or A levels/BTEC and is enthusiastic about pursuing a career in HR. The successful applicant will receive support for an apprenticeship level 3 qualification through Bournemouth & Poole College. This training will facilitate the attainment of accreditation and the potential for professional membership with the CIPD, with opportunities to advance to level 5. As skills and experience grow, there will be chances to engage in more intricate HR functions and projects.

The team also participates in initiatives related to other Curtiss-Wright facilities across Europe and Asia, presenting opportunities to engage in various HR aspects.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist the HR team
  • Respond to inquiries on the HR Helpdesk
  • Update Workday system
  • Manage employee transitions in collaboration with the US-based HRIS Team
  • Facilitate new hire onboarding and offboarding processes
  • Support career fairs and open house events
  • Assist with new employee screenings (e.g., ITAR, BPSS, and SC)
  • Generate HR reporting metrics
  • Maintain HR processes and procedures
  • Participate in ad hoc HR projects

Qualifications

  • A minimum of 4 GCSEs at grade 5 or above (including Maths and English Language)
  • If you are an A level or equivalent student, ideally in Business, Economics, Psychology, or Law.

Skills

  • Proficient in IT, particularly MS Office Word and Excel
  • Strong attention to detail
  • Excellent customer service and interpersonal skills
  • Effective time management and ability to perform under pressure
  • Strong communication and organizational abilities

Experience

  • Computer literate and competent in Microsoft Office Suite (including Excel, Word, and PowerPoint)
  • Experience in a customer-facing or service-oriented role (preferred)
  • Some familiarity with HR practices (preferred but not mandatory)

Additional Requirements

  • Occasional travel may be required (primarily to other CW UK locations)
