Position Overview

We are seeking a dedicated Lead Pharmacy Technician who aligns with our mission to deliver exceptional care and service to our patients.

The ideal candidate will serve as the primary contact for inquiries from healthcare professionals and external partners, efficiently managing questions via email and phone, and directing them to the appropriate personnel when necessary.

Your responsibilities will include the precise dispensing and issuance of prescriptions and medication orders under the guidance of a licensed pharmacist or accredited checking technician. Additionally, you will assist pharmacists and technicians in delivering high-quality pharmaceutical services within our cancer care unit, including inventory management and the preparation of ready-to-use systemic anticancer treatments. You will also collaborate with senior technicians in the organization and dispensing of cancer therapies.

Essential Qualifications

Experience in a pharmaceutical or healthcare setting is required. Candidates must hold an NVQ Level 2 in Pharmacy Services.

Key Responsibilities

• Accurately dispense medications for inpatients, discharges, and systemic anti-cancer treatments, ensuring compliance with prescription types including controlled substances and ready-to-use formulations.

• Maintain precise inventory control through daily stock assessments, expiration date monitoring, and resolution of stock discrepancies in accordance with established protocols.

• Oversee the organization, archiving, and disposal of documentation required for legal compliance within the department.

• Ensure the receipt of correct goods and quantities against purchase orders.

• Manage incoming calls and address inquiries appropriately, taking messages or referring to the relevant staff member.

• Contribute to the safe disposal of pharmaceutical waste in accordance with departmental guidelines.

• Adhere to Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) consistently.

• Utilize pharmacy management software on a daily basis.

Job Responsibilities

We are looking to enhance our team at the Mount Vernon Cancer Centre as we embark on an exciting new chapter.

In addition, a High Cost Area Supplement of 15% of your base salary will be provided, with a minimum payment of £4,314 and a maximum payment of £5,436 per annum, pro rata.

Qualifications and Experience

Essential

  • GCSE level (Grade A-C in English and Maths) or equivalent functional skills in Numeracy and Literacy.
  • NVQ Level 2 in Pharmacy Practice or equivalent experience.
  • Strong numeracy and literacy skills.

Desirable

  • Level 2 NVQ certificate in Pharmacy Service Skills (dispensing unit) or equivalent.

Previous Experience

Essential

  • Experience in a pharmacy services environment.
  • Customer service experience, including phone and face-to-face interactions.

Desirable

  • Experience in a hospital pharmacy setting.
  • Familiarity with Wellsky (JAC) pharmacy management system.
  • Understanding of working within standard operating procedures.

Skills

Essential

  • Effective communication skills with the public and healthcare professionals.
  • Ability to work collaboratively within a team and with staff at all levels.
  • Strong time management, organizational, and problem-solving abilities; capable of prioritizing workloads effectively.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office applications such as Word, Excel, and Outlook.

Desirable

  • Training skills to coach and mentor other assistants.
  • Customer service training.
  • Experience in resolving queries and liaising with technicians and pharmacists as needed.
