Perinatal Support Coordinator

Cambridge, Cambridgeshire, United Kingdom Cambridgeshire & Peterborough Full time

Position Overview

Greetings, I am Emily, a Specialist Perinatal Occupational Therapist and the acting Team Manager for the South Perinatal Team. Our focus is on providing support to women facing severe or complex mental health challenges during pregnancy or in the early stages of motherhood. We are committed to delivering high-quality, evidence-based specialist guidance, assessments, and interventions tailored to individual needs.

Having transitioned from an acute physical health setting, I developed a passion for assisting pregnant women dealing with eating disorders. Our service adopts a comprehensive approach, addressing the needs of the entire family and considering both immediate and long-term requirements. Assisting individuals during such transformative life events is a privilege I cherish.

If you join our team, you will collaborate with me and another Band Occupational Therapist in our South Hub. Your contributions will be vital in fostering innovative practices and enhancing personalized care for our clients.

We prioritize the professional development of our staff. Every new team member participates in the Tavistock Perinatal Training program, ensuring that prior perinatal experience is not a prerequisite. Becoming part of our team grants you access to exceptional resources and support, allowing for significant professional growth in perinatal training and occupational therapy skills.

Main Responsibilities

As an Occupational Therapist, your role encompasses both general and specialized responsibilities:

General Responsibilities:

  • Act as the lead professional/care coordinator for a designated caseload of women.
  • Conduct initial perinatal assessments and participate in multidisciplinary team feedback sessions.
  • Engage in the perinatal duty/triage rota during weekday afternoons.
  • Collaborate within a multidisciplinary team, including psychiatrists, psychologists, and other professionals.
  • Provide supervision to staff at Band and lower levels.

Occupational Therapy Specific Responsibilities:

  • Manage OT referrals, triage, assessments, goal setting, treatment, and evaluations utilizing the MOHO framework.
  • Implement OT interventions focusing on role/identity adjustment, re-ablement, functional skills, co-occupations with infants, and sensory needs.
  • Facilitate OT group sessions, including antenatal and post-natal wellbeing groups, with additional groups in development.
  • Oversee qualified staff and support team members to ensure effective OT interventions.
  • Supervise OT students during their practice placements.
  • Collaborate with the Band Lead to address OT service requirements.
  • Promote the value of occupational therapy and serve as an ambassador within the team.
