Job Description

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Consultant Psychiatrist to join our team at Dorset HealthCare University NHS Foundation Trust. The successful candidate will be responsible for providing high-quality psychiatric care to patients in the community, working closely with multidisciplinary teams to deliver effective treatment and support.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide specialist psychiatric care to patients in the community, including assessment, diagnosis, and treatment planning.
  • Work collaboratively with other healthcare professionals to deliver comprehensive care and support to patients and their families.
  • Develop and implement treatment plans that are tailored to the individual needs of patients, taking into account their medical history, social circumstances, and personal preferences.
  • Conduct regular reviews and assessments to ensure that patients are receiving the most appropriate care and support.
  • Participate in multidisciplinary team meetings to discuss patient care and share best practices.
  • Contribute to the development and implementation of clinical guidelines and policies to ensure that care is delivered in accordance with best practice.
  • Supervise and support junior medical staff, including medical students and junior doctors, to ensure that they are receiving the necessary training and support to develop their skills and expertise.
  • Participate in research and audit projects to improve the quality and effectiveness of care.
Requirements
  • Must be in possession of a CCT in Psychiatry or on the Specialist Register in Psychiatry.
  • Must have Section 12(2) approval and Approved Clinician approval or be able to obtain approval before starting the post.
  • Must have excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively with patients, families, and other healthcare professionals.
  • Must have a strong understanding of clinical governance and the importance of maintaining high standards of care and safety.
  • Must have experience of working in a community mental health setting and be familiar with the principles of community-based care.
  • Must have a strong commitment to teaching and education, with the ability to supervise and support junior medical staff.
Desirable Qualifications and Experience
  • Qualification or higher degree in medical education, clinical research, or management.
  • Additional clinical qualification.
  • Experience of working in a leadership or management role.
  • Experience of conducting research and audit projects.
  • Published research or audit projects.
