Job Description

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Consultant in Child and Adolescent Psychiatry to join our team at Dorset Healthcare University NHS Foundation Trust.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide high-quality clinical care to children and adolescents with mental health needs, working closely with multidisciplinary teams to develop and implement effective treatment plans.
  • Conduct comprehensive assessments and diagnoses, using evidence-based approaches to inform treatment decisions.
  • Develop and maintain strong relationships with patients, families, and carers, ensuring that their needs are met and their voices are heard.
  • Collaborate with other healthcare professionals to ensure seamless care transitions and optimal patient outcomes.
  • Stay up-to-date with the latest research, guidelines, and best practices in child and adolescent psychiatry, applying this knowledge to improve patient care and outcomes.
Requirements
  • Hold a medical qualification (e.g., MBBS, equivalent) and a Licence to Practise.
  • Be a member of the Royal College of Psychiatrists (MRCPsych) or have a recognised equivalent.
  • Have a CCT in Psychiatry or be on the Specialist Register in Psychiatry.
  • Hold Section 12(2) approval and Approved Clinician approval or be able to obtain approval before starting the post.
  • Have excellent knowledge of child and adolescent psychiatry, with a strong understanding of the bio-psycho-social model.
  • Be able to work effectively in a multidisciplinary team, with excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Have experience of teaching, research, and audit, with a strong commitment to professional development and continuous learning.
Desirable Qualifications and Experience
  • Qualification or higher degree in medical education, clinical research, or management.
  • Additional clinical qualification or experience in a related field.
  • Experience of working in a leadership or management role, with a strong understanding of clinical governance and leadership principles.
  • Published research or audit projects, with experience of critically appraising published research.
