Job Description

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Consultant in Child and Adolescent Psychiatry to join our team at Dorset Healthcare University NHS Foundation Trust.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide high-quality clinical care to children and adolescents with mental health needs, including assessment, diagnosis, and treatment planning.
  • Lead and manage a multidisciplinary team of healthcare professionals to deliver effective care and support.
  • Develop and implement policies and procedures to ensure high standards of care and safety.
  • Contribute to the development and implementation of clinical governance and quality improvement initiatives.
  • Supervise and appraise junior medical staff, providing guidance and support to ensure their professional development.
  • Participate in research and audit projects to improve patient outcomes and service delivery.
Requirements
  • Hold a medical qualification (e.g. MBBS) and be registered with the GMC.
  • Have a CCT in Psychiatry or be on the Specialist Register.
  • Have Section 12(2) approval and Approved Clinician approval.
  • Have excellent clinical skills, knowledge, and experience in child and adolescent psychiatry.
  • Have strong leadership and management skills, with experience of leading a multidisciplinary team.
  • Have excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively with patients, families, and colleagues.
Desirable Qualifications and Experience
  • Experience of teaching and training junior medical staff.
  • Experience of research and audit projects, with publication in peer-reviewed journals.
  • Experience of managing budgets and resources.
  • Experience of working in a leadership role, with responsibility for strategic planning and decision-making.
