Job Overview

The role of the Training Programme Coordinator for Medical Specialties involves overseeing a range of responsibilities aimed at supporting the midwifery team. This position requires flexibility to work during unsocial hours and weekends. The coordinator will ensure that all care and supervision are managed effectively, while also enabling the team to deliver comprehensive support to women and their families. The coordinator will work collaboratively with the midwifery team, providing holistic care within established care plans.

Key Responsibilities

Main Duties

  • Collaborate across various maternity departments, including Labour Ward, Birth Centre, Triage, Recovery, and both Antenatal and Postnatal wards, alongside midwives.
  • Welcome and orient women upon their arrival to the wards.
  • Conduct basic health observations, perform urinalysis, and assist with phlebotomy as needed.
  • Monitor infants and report any abnormalities to the appropriate team members.
  • Provide clear SBAR handovers to team members regarding patient care.
  • Utilize IT systems, such as Badgernet, to document care provided to women and infants accurately.
  • Assist midwives with essential tasks as required.
  • Maintain cleanliness and organization of work areas and equipment.
  • Ensure stock levels of resources and equipment are adequate in all areas.
  • Support maternity theatre operations as necessary.
  • Aid the wider team by performing simple tasks, such as running errands and responding to call bells.
  • Work with midwives to identify women needing urgent care and escalate concerns appropriately.
  • Assist with infant feeding initiatives, supporting new mothers in their feeding choices.
  • Provide support to women and infants during the immediate postnatal period, ensuring maternal and fetal well-being.

Essential Qualifications

  • A solid educational background equivalent to GCSE level or higher.

Desirable Qualifications

  • Additional relevant training or certifications.

Skills and Experience

  • Prior clinical experience within the NHS.

Desirable Skills

  • Experience in maternity care.
  • Proficiency in extended skills such as phlebotomy and ECG.
  • Familiarity with triage or transitional care settings.
