Job Overview

The Training Programme Coordinator for Medical Specialties plays a vital role in supporting the midwifery team by overseeing a range of essential skills. This position requires flexibility to work during unsocial hours and weekends. The coordinator will ensure that all care and supervision are conducted under the guidance of the midwifery team, while also contributing to the overall care plan.

Main Responsibilities

  • Collaborate across various maternity areas including Labour Ward, Birth Centre, Triage, Recovery, and both Antenatal and Postnatal wards.
  • Welcome and orient new patients to the maternity wards.
  • Conduct basic health assessments, including observations and urinalysis, and perform phlebotomy as needed.
  • Monitor newborns and report any abnormalities promptly.
  • Provide clear SBAR handovers to team members regarding patient care.
  • Utilize IT systems to document care provided to patients and infants accurately.
  • Assist midwives with routine tasks as required.
  • Maintain cleanliness and organization of work areas and equipment.
  • Restock supplies and ensure availability of necessary resources.
  • Support maternity theatre operations as needed.
  • Assist the broader team with various tasks, including running errands and responding to call bells.
  • Work closely with midwives to identify patients needing urgent care and escalate issues as necessary.
  • Support new mothers with infant feeding, adhering to Baby Friendly Initiative standards.
  • Ensure the well-being of mothers and infants during the immediate postnatal period.

Education

  • Essential: Good general education to GCSE level or equivalent.
  • Desirable: Additional relevant training.

Skills and Experience

  • Essential: Clinical experience within the NHS.
  • Desirable: Experience in maternity care, extended skills such as phlebotomy and ECG, and experience in triage or transitional care.

Personal Qualities

  • Essential: Strong team player, ability to use initiative, and excellent communication skills.
  • Desirable: Familiarity with IT systems such as Badgernet, IPM, and ICM.
