**Job summary**:
This is a fantastic opportunity to play a key role in supporting Ministers make high calibre appointments to key Departmental Boards and committees and the MOD’s arm’s length bodies and gain a broad understanding of the Ministry of Defence (MOD).

We are looking for two individuals to join our Public Appointments Team (PAT) to deliver the Department’s management and oversight of public appointments and support Defence’s non-executive community, one who will support development of public appointment and sponsorship policies and the other will focus on enhancing public appointment management information. MOD’s Public Appointments Team is varied and exciting and if you enjoy building good working relationships this is the job for you.

The PAT is part of the Directorate of Sponsorship and Organisational Policy (DSOP) and works closely with the other DSOP teams which lead on sponsorship of MOD’s Enabling Organisations and delivery of the Defence Operating Model. The PAT also supports the Defence Design Programme and other departmental priorities. You may be required to undertake related tasks that support these broader priorities. The PAT also works with a huge variety of other customers across the Department.

The PAT is responsible for developing and providing policy and process to ensure public appointments are fair, open and diverse, providing advice and support to recruiting teams. The team also provides assurance, management information and guidance to Ministers, senior officials, sponsor teams and defence organisations on all public appointment matters. The PAT undertakes activities to develop the overall MOD public appointee cadre, such as initiatives to improve diversity.

Public appointees have an important and influential role in the delivery of Defence outputs, including providing leadership, strategic direction, independent challenge and experienced knowledge. Appointees are not Defence employees but are appointed by Defence Ministers, with some appointed by the Prime Minister and HM the King.

We are recruiting 2x HEO’s for the role described below.

The positions are advertised at 37 hours per week. Requests for alternative working patterns, including part time and job share, are considered in line with business needs and accommodated where possible.

**Job description**:
**Working across the MOD and public body sponsor teams and secretariat teams, you will regularly engage at all levels in the department to support public appointments delivery.**:
**There are two positions available and both holders will support the teams work, as well as taking on lead responsibility for specific priority workstrands, within the following areas**:
1x Public Appointments (Management Information):
The post holder will engage and work closely with teams from across Head Office, Defence Digital, Defence Business Services (DBS) and other Departments including the Cabinet Office.

Key duties will include:

- Working with Defence Digital to develop Public Appointment database and management information systems to contribute to the effective support to and oversight of NED’s and public appointees in Defence.
- Leading and working with DBS on Defence inputs to the CO Applicant Tracking System, completing corporate returns on appointments, providing forward looks and other management information for the special advisor and others.
- Maintaining public appointment management information products.
- Developing options to use our management information to enhance the delivery of appointments in Defence.

1x Public Appointments (Policy Support):
The post holder will engage and work closely with key internal teams from Head Office, Civilian HR as well as external stakeholders Cabinet Office and other Government Departments.
