The Judicial Office is a small organisation (c400 people) which works in support of the Lord Chief Justice and Senior President of Tribunals. More generally, the Judicial Office is a very collegiate place to work and there are opportunities to get involved in a range of things, be it by becoming a member of the Shadow Board, joining the Learning & Development Group or work shadowing colleagues.
As this is an operational role, the hybrid working requirement is for a minimum of 40% of time spent in person at the Royal Courts of Justice. This may increase depending on operational business need.

**Summary of the role**:
Led by the Head of Judicial HR, the Judicial HR team is accountable for delivering the right Judicial Office Holders with the right skills, in the right place, at the right time in support of the Lord Chief Justice, the Senior President of Tribunals and the Lord Chancellor, as set out in the Constitutional Reform Act 2005. This is a prestigious, high profile and customer focused environment.
The Judicial Office Holder Appointments team provides support to the senior judiciary and the Lord Chancellor concerning Judicial Office Holder appointments and retirements.

**Responsibilities,Activities & Duties**:
Working to the Pre Appointments Manager and alongside other Pre Appointment Advisers this role involves working with a range of stakeholders including Judges, HMCTS, JAC, the Judicial College, wider JO colleagues and the MOJ and oversees the appointments process from start to finish, ensuring that all necessary paperwork is planned and approved beforehand in order to cope with the large scale of recruitment exercises that are on the JAC timetable. This includes the following responsibilities:

- Representing the Judicial Office Holder Appointments Team and the Judiciary at Delivery Team meetings for each recruitment campaign run by the JAC (and for some non-MoJ campaigns).
- Scrutinising planning papers ensuring they reflect the views of the judiciary.
- To ensure the early identification of lead judges in JAC recruitment exercises, working closely with them as appropriate when planning all JAC recruitment campaigns.
- Leading on relevant actions from the Delivery Team meetings to include the early identification of appropriate judicial resources, seeking the necessary judicial approvals of job descriptions and ensuring that judicial views are sought and actioned in terms of Additional Selection Criteria before securing final senior judicial approval of the Vacancy Request/requirements for recruitment.
- To build strong working relations with JAC, HMCTS, MOJ, wider JO and Judicial College colleagues, to ensure the effective and timely planning and delivery of JAC exercises.
- To be responsible for the Pool of Judges and Diversity data.
- Providing ad hoc flexible support to colleagues within the Judicial Office Holder Appointments Team and the wider Judicial Office as needed to meet work priorities.
- To provide leadership and manage performance to ensure the team is working to its greatest potential.
- Contribute to the continuing development of the Judicial HR database.
