**HEO Policy Officer - (Inside IR35)**

**Contract Term: 3 Months**

**Contracting Authority: DEFRA**

**Location: Remote - However there will be an expectation of attendance at either one of your local DEFRA Offices or one of the main hubs nearest to you ie: London / Bristol / York / Newcastle upon Tyne.**

In the Defra group, we deal with a vast range of issues that profoundly impact on people’s lives. Defra is the UK government department responsible for safeguarding our natural environment, supporting our world-leading food and farming industry, and sustaining a thriving rural economy. Our broad remit means we play a major role in people's day-to-day life, from the food we eat, and the air we breathe, to the water we drink.

The role will support with the development of policy to implement the Windsor Framework supporting on a range of projects from Sanitary and Phytosanitary assurance and standard to defining legislative requirements for post movement assurance.

**The role holder will play a key role in developing and implementing NI legislation and policy in this high risk and high-profile area. Current responsibilities include**:

- Develop and manage relationships with key partners both internal and external to shape and deliver work in line with policy intent, in particular Food Standards Agency and Defra Legal Teams.
- Support with other policy work, as needed.

- Develop and implement policy.
- Experience of Solving practical problems.

**It would be desirable if you also have the following**:

- Previous DEFRA experience.
- Public Sector experience.
- Experience of working with legal texts and producing legal documents.
- Proven leadership skills - you will show the ability to motivate teams to deliver by developing people and teams and creating a rewarding working environment.
