Following a successful business case, the specialist palliative care nursing service are recruiting new staff. This is an excellent and rare opportunity for a highly motivated and enthusiastic admin/clerical support to join the specialist palliative care Team at East Lancashire Hospitals Trust on a part time band 3 permanent contact, to support the implementation and delivery of a specialist palliative care nursing and administrative, seven-day service, across the hospital and community settings.

No Specialist palliative care admin experience is needed, but customer facing experience is welcomed.

Predominantly week day working with flexibility for some weekend shifts.

Full and Part time hours will be considered.

As clerical support for the team, you will demonstrate excellent communication and organisational skills. You will be comfortable working as part of a team and undertaking tasks individually. You will be expected to use your own initiative and to effectively manage your own time to complete a number of varied secretarial tasks on a daily basis. Your will provide secretarial support for all aspects of the work of the Lead Nurse, Assistant Director of Nursing and Clinical Nurse specialists as well as supporting the wider directorate. Duties will include, managing referrals, taking phone calls, requesting/chasing results, using Trust electronic systems and liaising both internally and externally with a variety of professionals, service users and their families. A significant part of the work of the the work will include, organising meetings, formatting Word documents as well as developing and using Excel files to manage data and extract information as needed.

This is a very rewarding and emotionally demanding role caring for people and their families who require Specialist palliative Care services. You will be working in a team consisting of Clinical Nurse Specialists, the Lead Nurse and Assistant Director of Nursing for specialist palliative care, Consultants in Palliative Medicine, an Advanced Clinical Practitioner and the administrative team, and working closely with the End of life and Bereavement team.

You will the first point of contact for the team and will play an active role, together with the existing members of the Specialist Palliative Care Team, in advancing high quality specialist palliative care services and promoting excellence in palliative and end-of-life care across ELHT, and in return you will be welcomed into a friendly and supportive team, who are mindful of the demands of this role, and who recognise that peer support is pivotal to staff health and wellbeing.

To provide pro-active and responsive operational support to the Specialist Palliative Care Team.

Daily inputting of data from hard copy onto appropriate electronic systems with speed and accuracy.

To competently use electronic information systems to ensure data is protected against inappropriate use and to make certain patient confidentiality is protected at all times.

To contribute to the productivity and reporting process and commit to act positively on feedback.

Ensure accurate information is recorded on Information systems

Ensure local and national databases are updated on a regular basis

Maintain a confidential and professional approach at all times when dealing with patients or relatives by telephone, or with colleagues, other professionals who are employees of ELHT or partner organisations by telephone or face to face.

Ensure good working relationships are maintained with all departments and Divisional Teams across the Organisation.

Participate in the processes relating to the correlation of information with regard toadmission and discharge processes to and from the Specialist Palliative Care Service

Support the monitoring and reporting of delays in the patient journey.

Respond to queries and requests for information in a timely and responsive manner within remit of knowledge and role.

Communicate and escalate queries to qualified team members as appropriate to enable these to be resolved in a timely manner.

Organise delegated workload, working on own initiative under the guidance of senior members of the Team to ensure deadlines are met and a high standard of service is provided.

Support processes to comply with the Care Quality Commission standards framework and other related legislation.

Undertake and contribute to a range of delegated duties, recording and communicating patient information, to minimise delays in processes and support a high standard of service provision.

Input, organise and file patient information and related documents appropriately, to maintain an efficient centralised system.

Refer any complaints or unresolved issues to the line manager or delegated person on duty.
