The Clinical Fellow in Rehabilitation Medicine functions a core part of a multidisciplinary rehabilitation team which provides a wide range of rehabilitation and assessment services to patients with Neurological disorders and Limb Loss. The post holder will be expected to work flexibly and be responsible for day-to-day patient care on the ward and participate in ward rounds and MDT working.

Queen Mary’s hospital is one of the few neurorehabilitation units providing intensive inpatient programs for patients with FND and thus this is an excellent opportunity for applicants with interest in (neuro) psychiatry.

The postholder will also have the opportunity to work with the nationally renowned amputee rehabilitation service based at Queen Mary’s hospital.

There is opportunity for the Clinical Fellow to be involved in specialist rehabilitation processes (Inpatient or Outpatient) and acquire new skills such as botulinum toxin injections for spasticity, diagnostic/therapeutic nerve blocks and joint steroid injections.

St George’s University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust is one of the largest healthcare units in the United Kingdom accommodating around 1170 beds and treating around 89,000 inpatient and day cases, and over 448,000 outpatients annually. The Trust employs over 6,000 staff incorporating 1,100 Medical & Dental Staff. It provides general acute services together with specialty services including neurosciences, cardiothoracic, and specialist children’s services.

St George’s Hospital is the main teaching hospital in the western sector of the South Thames, and as such has developed links with most district general hospitals throughout South Thames West, and supports a significant training programme for junior doctors who rotate through the Trust.

The service is on three sites, St George’s Hospital, the base for acute general medicine and surgical services,Queen Mary’s Hospital, Roehampton(QMR), and St John’s Therapy Centre, Battersea, where services for care of elderly patients previously at Bolingbroke Hospital are now based. The Trust serves a resident population of about 300,000 and serves two local Primary Care Trusts, Wandsworth and Sutton & Merton which have a total population of approximately 600,000 between them.

The post holder will have continuing responsibility for patients in their care on the ward. They will liaise with other relevant professionals within the multidisciplinary team and participate in planning the rehabilitation programme of patients. The post holder will take an active part in the activities of the department, case conferences, team meetings, and to represent the medical component of the team.

The post holder will be working under the supervision of the Consultants Dr Chris Symeon (Consultant Neuropsychiatrist), Dr Catherine Dalton (Consultant Neurologist), Dr Penelope Talelli (Consultant Neurologist), Dr Vijay Kolli (Consultant in Rehabilitation Medicine) and Dr Lawrence Hayes (Consultant in Rehabilitation Medicine)
