Clinical Pharmacology // Acute Medicine

This ST3+ Clinical Fellow post has been created to fill a vacancy created by a gap in a training programme. The post is designed to deliver Clinical Pharmacology services in the Trust and contribute to the non-acute medical registrar rota.

The Clinical Pharmacology Group comprises 7 consultants and 5 trainees (including this post). Clinical Pharmacology is situated in the Trust within Pharmacy and the team works closely with the Chief Pharmacist and their pharmacy team to ‘make sure that patients get the best medicines’.

The postholder will have a fantastic opportunity to work with one of the biggest NHS Clinical Pharmacology teams in the UK, contributing to delivery of the following services:

- Medicines management including: membership of formulary and medicines optimisation committees/groups, subregional immunoglobulin assessment panel, performing audits relating to the effective and safe use of medicines
- Specialist clinical pharmacology services including: clinics, multidisciplinary meetings, advice services and service innovation in the areas of polypharmacy, multimorbidity and pharmacogenomics
- Prescribing education for undergraduates and postgraduates, medical and independent prescribers, including work to audit and improve use of our electronic medicines prescribing and administration system (EPMA)
- Clinical trials, contributing to recruitment, taking informed consent, supervising patients in trials and providing sub-investigator support for the work of the Clinical Research Facility
- The Clinical Fellow will contribute to the non-acute medical registrar rota (1:11, no nights, which includes acute take and ward cover out of hours)

St George’s University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust serves a resident population of about 300,000, is located within the South West London ICS and serves six local boroughs, primarily Merton and Wandsworth. The Trust is one of the largest healthcare units in the UK, accommodating 1070 beds and annually treating around 61,500 inpatients as well as over 420,000 outpatients. The Trust provides general acute services together with tertiary services including neurosciences, cardiothoracic, and specialist children’s services.

St George’s Hospital is the main teaching hospital in the western sector of the South Thames region and has developed links with most of the regional district general hospitals. It supports a significant training programme for junior doctors that rotate through the Trust.
