Job Introduction
The services delivered by the Communities, Economy and Transport department (CET) have an enormous impact on the lives of local people and communities. From operating waste facilities and registration offices, to maintaining roads and major infrastructure planning, the moment an East Sussex resident steps outside their front door, they are interacting with our work. Therefore, roles in our department offer enormous scope to make a positive impact on the quality of life for people and the environment of East Sussex.
In this fascinating role at the heart of local government you will work as a member of a small business support team within the CET Department.
You will have lead responsibility for coordinating all correspondence and assist with scheduling regular diary appointments for the Director and Assistant Directors, organising high level meetings and events, managing forward plans, preparing agendas, coordinating reports and taking minutes for meetings, so organisational skills are essential.
Dynamic, flexible, curious and able to run with anything, you will be discreet with excellent judgement and able to maintain confidentiality.
Due to the department’s commitment to partnership working, and the collaboration required both within the team and across the Council, you should be excellent at building relationships at all levels.
The most important qualities for the role is the ability to organise and prioritise to manage complex and busy cases and to work well with others. It is essential that you have Microsoft Office skills.
You will work closely with the CET leadership team and liaise with Councillors and senior officers from partner organisations. You will need to have a good knowledge of working for a large and complex organisation and a good understanding of the political environment. The ability to prioritise tasks, meet deadlines and work using your own initiative is essential.
This is an excellent opportunity for an individual with high-level administration or similar experience to join a high-performing team.

Your starting salary will be pro rata if the above position is part-time or term-time only.
