This is an exciting opportunity to work at the heart of the Immigration Enforcement directly working with the Director General of Immigration Enforcement and holding a key role in his Private Office. You will be responsible for supporting the Director General on a daily basis to deliver their key priorities.

You should have strong relationship building skills, the ability to prioritise and organise, adaptability and excellent written and verbal communication skills and you should be able to engage with colleagues at all levels.

You can expect an exciting, fast-paced and varied job, as you provide support to the Director General.

You will need to be comfortable working reactively and proactively across a number of varied issues.

**Person specification**:
You will be responsible for the provision of high-quality support to the Director General of Immigration Enforcement alongside the Chief of Staff, Private Secretary and Diary Manager. you will report directly into the Director General’s Private Secretary.

Key responsibilities will include:

- Oversight of the Diary/DG’s schedule.
- Deputising for the Private Secretary when required.
- Working closely with the Immigration Enforcement DG’s Chief of Staff, Private Secretary, and other Private offices/Business Support teams to ensure a seamless and efficient team approach to the DG group’s business.
- Acting as a source of advice for the Director General on a range of issues, collating best available information and distilling into succinct, user-friendly briefing and other materials.
- Providing support which can include taking minutes of meetings, inbox management or monitoring progress of actions for the Director General in any work they lead.
- Organising (and on occasion) accompanying the Director General on visits and maintaining a programme of visits.
- Drafting and responding to correspondence for the Director General as required.

This is not an exhaustive lists, and your will need to be flexible and adapt their responsibilities to meet business demands.

**Essential Criteria**

You will need to be able to demonstrate the following:

- Ability to work collaboratively and flexibly within a team dynamic, often to short deadlines to achieve common goals, maintaining a high level of service whilst continuing to deliver efficiently and effectively in a fast-paced environment.
- Awareness of current and emerging political and illegal migration policy issues, (direct experience in this area is not essential).
- Strong interpersonal, relationship building and communication skills (both verbal and written).
- Confidence to engage personally on a daily basis with the department’s most senior leaders, including Ministers, the Permanent Secretary, Director General.
- Ability to build strong and lasting relationships with working-level and senior stakeholders.
- Excellent judgement and approach to situations, tasks and problems, and a self-starter who can work independently.
- Ability to quickly but effectively deliver to tight deadlines, whilst remaining professional in a pressured environment.

**Desirable Criteria**
- Experience of working in a Private Office environment such as working with Ministers and/or Senior Officials.
- Understanding of Immigration Enforcement and the Migration and Borders System.
