**Job summary**:
An exciting opportunity has arisen for a motivated, enthusiastic individual to join our friendly, busy secretarial team in the Trauma and Orthopaedics Office. The post will involve cross-site working between our secretarial offices at Good Hope Hospital and Solihull Hospital.
The successful applicant must be able to work to a high degree of accuracy and use their initiative to plan their workload providing a comprehensive secretarial, administrative and support service to the Department and Orthopaedic Consultants. By personally assisting with the administrative workload, the Medical Secretary Supervisor will enable the Consultant(s) to optimise clinical commitment. It is essential that the post holder exercises initiative and judgement using acquired skills and knowledge, maintaining confidentiality at all times.
You must be able to demonstrate substantial secretarial and administrative experience and be confident using MS Office and other IT systems.
The Department provides a comprehensive Trauma and Orthopaedic service to a wide range of service users including Paediatric Orthopaedics, Ambulatory Care and Elective Treatment and Surgery. The Orthopaedic service covers all specialities from Shoulder to Foot.
**Main duties, tasks & skills required**:
Duties will include;
- Updating databases and clinical systems.
- Provide and Receive complex information daily.
- Touch type from audio clinical letters, result letters, medical reports, Coroners reports.
- Draft letters on behalf of Consultant.
- Exercise a high level of medical terminology.
- Provide a point of contact for GP's, Health Care Professionals, Patients, Relatives and Carers.
- General office duties.
- Understand patient treatment pathway's.
- Manage and Progress results of investigations.

- Good General Education (eg. GCSE English and Maths A-C) GCSE Level 9-4
- Business Administration NVQ level 3 or equivalent experience in a clerical environment
- AMSPAR Certificate/equivalent qualification or equivalent knowledge of medical terminology
- Working knowledge of medical terminology
**Experience**:

- Experience of working as a Medical Secretary
- Experience of dealing with the Public/Customer service experience
- Experience of working with a range of Microsoft Office packages (e.g. Word, Excel and Outlook)
- Experience of using IT systems
- Experience of working in Healthcare
- Good Organisational skills
- Able to use own initiative and deal with the unpredictable
- Able to work under pressure and to multi-task
- Able to work to deadlines
