**Job overview**:
This is an exciting opportunity to join the clerical & administrational team within Acute Medicine at Birmingham Heartlands Hospital. Acute Medicine is one of the largest departments within the hospital, with a high turnover of patients. This is an opportunity to join a passionate and vibrant team In a fast paced environment. The role will provide a complete confidential general and medical secretarial service for the consultants and their medical team, as well as administrational tasks for the department.
**Main duties, tasks & skills required**:
- Touch type various clinical documents including; clinical and results letters, medical reports, radiology reports & other administrational letters. Many of these documents may be of complex or distressing content.
- To manage, progress ad chase results of patients investigations on a daily basis with guidance from the medical team.
- Draft letters on behalf of the consultants.
- Be a point of contact for GP's and other Health Care Professionals, as well as patients. Deal with queries and instigate appropriate action.
- Knowledge and use of various Microsoft office programmes. Use of Hospital Information Support Systems.
- Arrange meetings, and case conferences on behalf of medical team.
- Work collaboratively as part of an integrated team.
- Prioritise own work load to meet the needs of the service user, and medical team.

Maths and English GCSE, A*-C/9-4
Business Administration NVQ level 3 or equivalent experience in a clerical environment
AMSPAR Certificate/equivalent qualification or equivalent knowledge of medical terminology

Experience of dealing with the public/customer service experience
Experience of working with a range of Microsoft Office packages
Experience of using IT systems
Experience of working in a healthcare environment
Good organisational skills

Able to work to deadlines
