**Job summary**:
We are looking to recruit an enthusiastic and motivated Band 4 Medical Secretary to join our secretarial team within the Burns and Plastics Department at Queen Elizabeth Hospitals Birmingham. The post requires an individual who is resilient and adaptable to work in a fast paced professional environment.

You should have good communication and organisational skills and able to use your own initiative in prioritising your workload to enable the consultant(s) to optimise their clinical commitment.

You should ideally possess AMPSAR/medical terminology qualification or demonstrate previous substantial administration experience with excellent audio-typing skills; understanding of the RTT pathway and experience of managing waiting lists. You must also be confident using MS office and other IT systems.

The post is full time (37.5 hours) working across 5 days (Monday to Friday).

**Main duties, tasks & skills required**:

- To book, reschedule and cancel appointments/clinics.
- Monitor clinic capacity.
- To liaise with theatres, pre-screening, hospital wards and other departments when arranging

patient TCI's for allocated theatres lists.
- To produce accurate correspondence in a timely manner, typing from audio dictation.
- Providing a first point of contact for patients, colleagues and other health care professionals.
- Updating and inputting of patient information on to the appropriate systems and

spreadsheets.
- Attending weekly theatre forward look meetings via MS Teams with your team.
- Completing necessary actions required from correspondence and requests received

**Essential**:

- Good General Education (eg. GCSE English and Maths A-C) GCSE Level 9-4
- Business Administration NVQ level 3 or equivalent experience in a clerical environment
- AMSPAR Certificate/equivalent qualification or equivalent knowledge of medical terminology
- Working knowledge of medical terminology

**Experience**:

- Experience of working as a Medical Secretary
- Experience of dealing with the Public/Customer service experience
- Experience of working with a range of Microsoft Office packages (e.g. Word, Excel and Outlook)
- Experience of using IT systems
- Experience of working in Healthcare
- Good Organisational skills
- Able to use own initiative and deal with the unpredictable
- Able to work under pressure and to multi-task
- Able to work to deadlines

- Experience of working in a busy environment
