Clinical Educator Midwifery

JOB SUMMARY A proactive role-model that supports practice development; clinical education; workforce transformation; and research and innovation in maternity across the Family Health Division to ensure the successful delivery of the Nottingham University Hospitals NHS Trust (NUH) Nursing and Midwifery (N&M) Strategy. The Midwifery Clinical Educator works to support the priority objectives of the Division Supports leadership and gives advice and support, fostering a learning culture that values high quality patient care, evidence based practice, research and innovation Works in partnership with the practice development leads, clinical leads, senior midwives and nurses, matrons, ward/clinic and community managers to ensure the delivery of the N&M Strategy and implementation of effective strategies to enhance staff satisfaction, staff engagement, improved staff retention and multi-disciplinary team working to achieve agreed common goals and outcomes Ensures the highest standards of education, research, and clinical care are in place. In collaboration with the trust and practice development leads implements, maintains and evaluates systems and processes, which ensure standards, are maintained A proactive role model who leads in the clinical environment on the provision of clinical educationand assessment of competence in the ward, department and/or community setting. Responsible for the continued development of evidence-based midwifery practice across the maternity service A clinically credible practitioner, the post holder will utilise their clinical experience and related skills to provide support for all staff and demonstrate a commitment to the development and advancement of midwifery practice The post holder will work some of their time within the clinical setting supporting learning within the acute and community setting and establishing change in practice as well as working alongside team members to support individual development to meet the needs of the service Time will be focussed on developing clinical practice through change management, establishing guidance, education resources and aides Supports staff, ensuring the provision of high quality patient care in the most efficient and safe manner in accordance with directorate and trust policies and procedure.
KEY JOB RESPONSIBILITIES Be responsible for the assessment, delivery and evaluation of clinical education according to individual staff learning needs in clinical practice. Be a visible point of contact for staff and students working in practice on a daily basis. Promote reflective practice and experiential learning opportunities developing a learning culture in the clinical environment. Facilitate the development and maintenance of clinical staff competence in the use of medical equipment in the clinical area by liaising with identified equipment trainers in the maternity unit in order to comply with the trusts health and safety policy.
Be a visible role model and example to ensure that the dignity, rights and confidentiality of the patient and individual team members are protected and maintained in accordance with national standards and guidelines. Provide care within the clinical and community setting, maximising opportunities for training and educational input. Participate in the development of all maternity policies and procedures and clinical audit. Contribute to clinical guidelines and protocols where appropriate.
Managerial Ensure the delivery of care is in accordance with the policies, procedures, guidelines and practices of Nottingham University Hospitals NHS Trust and ensure all staff are up to date with such procedures. Assist with the establishment, motivation and development of the team. Assist with the identification of individuals personal and developmental needs through performance reviews and competency assessment and in conjunction with the Practice Development Leads and ward/unit manager complete training needs analysis. In conjunction with the Practice Development Leads and ward/unit manager, review team composition, performance and deficiencies to ensure the correct skill mix is available to provide quality patient care.
Participate in the recruitment and selection of staff as appropriate. In partnership with the Practice Development Leads and ward/unit manager, establish a clear focus and direction for the team. Allocate work among the team ensuring staff understand the purpose and objectives of the directorate and the clinical educators role within the team. Provide them with guidance and support in order for them to fulfil their roles.
Support the PDLs and ward/unit manager in monitoring and reviewing quality standards that impact upon the delivery of care. Contribute to updating and formulation of new procedures both clinical and other.
