The post holder will:
Work as part of the Institute Faculty, working closely with clinical divisional teams to implement and evolve the NUH model of Shared Governance.

Work with ward managers and clinical educators to ensure there is an appropriate learning environment in all areas for supporting and developing Shared Governance Councils.

Facilitate staff members throughout NUH to set-up and sustain a Shared Governance Culture.

Identify areas for development and improvement in the Shared Governance leadership model and take proactive steps to support any required changes.

Support research and the measurement of the impact of Shared Governance across NUH.

Support the wider work of the Institute faculty as required.

Shared Governance is the leadership model and culture which Nottingham University Hospitals NHS Trust (NUH) is aiming to achieve in all areas over the coming years. At NUH we define Shared Governance as:

- “Where staff have collective ownership to develop and improve practice; ensuring patients receive caring, safe and confident care. It places staff at the centre of the decision making process and sees managers having a facilitative leadership role”_

At present, NUH is home to the most advanced model of Shared Governance of any UK hospital and has won two national awards for the achievements of staff members involved. In order to ensure the Trust delivers this important commitment; with the direct support of the Practice Development Lead, Clinical Lead for Shared Governance and Inclusive Leadership and the Institute of Care Excellence team.

**Detailed job description and main responsibilities**:
The post holder will:
Work as part of the Institute Faculty, working closely with clinical divisional teams to implement and evolve the NUH model of Shared Governance.

You will be expected to help with clinical pressures as and when required.

The successful applicant will need to be highly motivated, a skilled communicator and have evidence of an understanding of education, practice development and research in multi professional and cross health and social care context. You will be NMC registered with contemporary clinical experience in acute care nursing/ midwifery, a diploma in nursing/midwifery or closely related topic. **Training & Qualifications**:
**Essential criteria**:

- Current level one Nursing registration or Midwifery registration
- Minimum diploma level study.

**Desirable criteria**:

- Working towards or planning to undertake relevant degree or masters.
- Mentorship.
- Experience as a Shared Governance council member

**Experience**:
**Essential criteria**:

- Current evidence of Band 5 /6 working clinically in an acute hospital setting.
- Demonstrates evidence that you have mentored students and support staff with evidence of clinical leadership skills.
- Experience of teaching in formal and clinical settings.
- Demonstrates evidence of clinical leadership implementing clinical/quality improvements in practice.
- Experience of providing staff and students with feedback on their individual performance.

**Desirable criteria**:

- Experience of clinical supervision
- Audit or research within the clinical area.
- Evidence of receiving formal feedback.

**Communication and relationship Skills**:
**Essential criteria**:

- Demonstrate effective written and verbal communication skills.
- Recognition of own level of competence and limitations and able to communicate these.
- Ability to constructively challenge others and formulate resolutions in conflict situations.
- Ability to convey sensitive information in an empathetic manner to colleagues, patients, relative/carers.
