Midwifery Lead

The Midwifery Improvement Lead is a key role in driving the NUH Maternity Transformation agenda by implementing sustainable change that can positively influence the delivery of safe, high quality care.
Working as a core member of the Improvement team, the post holder will be expected to use their considerable clinical expertise and leadership to foster a culture of continuous improvement and clinical excellence. They will be instrumental in the engagement with key stakeholders to enact strategic change and development plans facilitating an opportunity for ongoing transformation.
The post holder will help to ensure that the NUH Maternity teams incorporate the latest models of care, are truly transformative in nature and maximise the opportunities to improve safety, quality by the efficiency delivery of sustainable cultural and transformational change.
Support the delivery and completion of the Maternity Improvement Programme, whilst enacting a sustainable framework that addresses locally and nationally identified transformation projects. Creating the conditions for continuous improvement through a compassionate and inclusive leadership culture.
Supporting the service to develop safe and reliable systems of care.
Learning from excellence and consistently embedding this across maternity services.
Application and implementation of recognised quality improvement methodology to address identified learning opportunities which have a significant impact on safety, performance, staff and service user experience.
Development of positive, supportive and just culture that fully engages the maternity team.
Improving the experiences of mothers, families and staff service experience to inspire service user and public confidence.
Provide professional midwifery advice, support and challenge to leaders and stakeholders across the maternity improvement programme.
Contribute to assuring healthy inter
- and intra
- team relationships and help groups initiate and adapt to change.
Actively engaging with internal and external stakeholders to ensure the trust is leading edge in transformation.

Work as lead member of the NUH Maternity Improvement Programme Team.
Working collaboratively with all professional leads and managerial staff in the maternity leadership team, provide effective professional leadership, acting as a role model for all staff within maternity services by being visible, supportive and accessible.
Lead by example in terms of leadership behaviour and effectiveness and ensuring that the vision within the NHS People Plan (August 2020) for compassionate and Inclusive leadership and a civility culture is applied and embedded within maternity services.
Contribute to and promote a culture that values all staff recognising and acknowledging achievement and success whilst positively addressing poor performance
Provide leading edge thinking, advice and challenge to leaders on maternity service issues.
Work in close collaboration with others to ensure that interventions are integral and linked to all other activities within the Programme to achieve a holistic approach that drives delivery and change.
Support team-working within the Programme by ensuring that individual effort is coordinated with other team members to meet overall team goals.
Influence and support change in organisational behaviours.
Consistently and effectively build trusting relationships with individual leaders and teams.
Work closely with key stakeholders (across NUH and partners).
Facilitate and negotiate change and support with implementing new ways of working where necessary to improve the safety and reliability of systems and processes for care.
Ability to reconcile professional differences of opinion or judgements on complex clinical issues.
Working collaboratively, support the planning, development, provision and review of excellent, patient centred, safe and integrated pathways of care.
Provide strategic assurance and oversight of ongoing programme progress with an ability to identify, monitor and address delivery risks.
