We study viruses of livestock that are endemic and exotic to the UK, including zoonotic viruses, by using the most advanced tools and technologies to understand host-pathogen interactions in animals and arthropod vectors. We all play a crucial role in furthering the Institute’s aspirations, advancing the frontiers of science and knowledge through our excellent scientific research, knowledge sharing and contribution; The Procurement Administrator will be working together with the buyer and Procurement Manager to deliver procurement processes across a diverse portfolio of goods and services, through the application of good practice. In addition, the Procurement Administrator after initial training will assist with raising of purchase orders and ensuring all invoices are matched and processed appropriately.


The Procurement Administrator is a pivotal member of the team and will support the department
in delivering an excellent service and for the procurement team to deliver the “value for money” category processes across a diverse portfolio of goods and services, through the application of good practice category, contract, and supplier management techniques. The procurement team involves developing market intelligence, tendering, negotiation, establishing supplier/ consortia relationships and performance management. The position will perform key duties and report to the Procurement Manager.


Support the purchasing department and other relevant departments in ensuring that the Institute achieves best value from all its purchasing relationships and supply chain and that all process is documented and auditable.
Act as an interface between suppliers and other relevant stakeholders on purchasing processes and activities.
Assist in raising the organisational capability in purchasing and best practice, identifying any training themes for the users.
Work closely with the procurement manager and buyer to review opportunities for continuous improvement and business improvements in support of business objectives.
Contact suppliers to resolve price, quality, delivery or invoice queries and issues.
Assist in amending of Supplier and staff accounts.
Assist with housekeeping of the procurement system. The Procurement Administrator will carry out any other duties as may be reasonably required by his/her line manager. All employees shall actively participate in the Institute-wide quality assurance system in conjunction with the Institute’s Quality Manager. Employees are also expected to safeguard their own health and safety and security by following policies and all e mployees are responsible for the Health and Safety and security of staff under their management.


They will be expected to work both independently and as part of a team carrying out research to highest ethical and academic standards.


GCSE A-C (4-9) or equivalent skill level in English, Maths, and ICT.


Able to work well under pressure and demonstrate a flexible approach.
Willingness to learn and develop as a Procurement Administrator.
Due to the nature of the work, all successful applicants will be required to go through a comprehensive screening process including reference and qualification checks, financial and security clearances.
