To provide clinical leadership to a designated nursing team and ensure the provision of high quality nursing care to children and families.

To act as a role model and expert clinical practitioner.

To assist in the safe, effective and efficient management of the department within allocated resources.

To promote a progressive attitude to the continual improvement of patient care through research and evidence based practice.

To undertake delegated responsibility for the department in the absence of the Ward Manager.

Main duties of the job

To be a clinical expert within the speciality.

To provide expert nursing care to very premature and ill newborn babies with complex multi-organ problems that is at high risk of acute deterioration.

To ensure the provision of excellent, evidence based nursing care for the children and their families.

To provide continuous monitoring observation and assessment for signs of deterioration or complications of treatment and make appropriate and timely intervention, with the skill and dexterity to minimise physical and physiological stress to the infant.

To care for babies with multiple invasive devices. Using skills to minimise risk of complications, recognise those occurring and taking appropriate and timely action.

Ensure that each baby is assessed, and that their care is planned, implemented and evaluated in negotiation with the family, and that this is accurately documented.

Promote Family Integrated Care and ensure the provision of a welcoming, caring and safe environment for the babies and their families.

To act as an advocate for the baby and family ensuring the provision of appropriate information and support services.

To provide a sympathetic and empathetic listener for parents to explore their experiences. To teach, encourage and support parents and family so they can develop skills and confidence to care for their baby.

The ability to speak Welsh is desirable for this post; English and/or Welsh speakers are equally welcome to apply.
