The Department of Music at the University of Nottingham is looking to appoint a Teaching Associate in Ethnomusicology.

You will have a PhD in Music or relevant field (or to be awarded by time of appointment, by which we mean submitted, passed its viva, with any corrections submitted and confirmed by the examiners) , or an equivalent level of professional qualifications and experience, and an emerging or established career as an ethnomusicologist nationally and/or internationally. You will have an advanced and wide-ranging knowledge of ethnomusicological theory and method, and an ability to teach beyond this area of expertise. You will have previous experience teaching ethnomusicology at HE level and experience of assessment at HE level.

Your primary duties will include delivering the teaching and assessment of one undergraduate module: Global Music Studies (Level 1). In addition, you will be required to supervise students for Dissertation (Level 3). You may be asked to contribute to teaching in other areas of the curriculum, as appropriate.

You will contribute to an exceptional education for undergraduates and postgraduates in music and make an exceptional contribution to the Department's teaching profile and culture. You will be keen to pursue opportunities for teaching development, impact, public engagement, and/or interdisciplinary work. You will offer pastoral support to students as a Personal Tutor and be keen on championing and promoting Equality, Diversity, and Inclusion initiatives. You may be assigned administrative duties to support the teaching work of the Department.

As a Teaching Associate you will be expected to:

  • Deliver innovative teaching.
  • Contribute positively and proactively to the Department's teaching culture.
  • Supervise and examine Undergraduate and Postgraduate students in music.
  • Take a proactive role in the pastoral support of students, dealing with sensitive issues.
  • Be responsible for administrative duties.

This is a fixed-term, 0.4fte (14.5 hours per week) role commencing 1st September 2024 until 31st January 2025.
