Job Overview

We are thrilled to announce an exceptional opportunity for a motivated and skilled individual to become a part of our esteemed Elective Orthopaedic Nurse Practitioner team. If you are passionate about guiding patients through their entire care journey and wish to lend your expertise to our nurse-led service, this role is for you. Our Elective Orthopaedic Nurse Practitioner Team is dedicated to delivering evidence-based care, advancing clinical practices, and engaging in academic research. As a Band 5 Elective Orthopaedic Nurse Practitioner Associate, you will play a vital role in assisting the Band 6 Nurse Practitioner in managing their patient caseload, while also collaborating with the multidisciplinary team and various specialist units.

The successful candidate will be actively involved in optimizing patient care prior to surgery and will provide ongoing support throughout their recovery journey. A key aspect of your role will be to facilitate educational opportunities for all staff levels and patients alike, contributing to the ongoing development of our services and pathways. We take pride in the impactful work our team accomplishes and encourage innovative project initiatives that enhance patient experiences. Our commitment is to offer continuous development and support to all new team members.

Key Responsibilities

The primary responsibility of the Elective Orthopaedic Nurse Practitioner Associate is to assist the Band 6 Nurse Practitioner with their complex elective orthopaedic patient caseload, particularly those with multiple co-morbidities requiring pre-surgical optimization. You will independently manage consent clinics and provide essential support in urgent care and follow-up clinics. We expect the successful candidate to accurately document the condition and progress of both pre-operative and post-operative patients, promptly reporting any concerns to the Nurse Practitioner or senior nursing staff.

As a teaching hospital, we value knowledge sharing and expect you to contribute to the education of the wider elective orthopaedic team, mentoring students and providing insights into the operational aspects of our surgical services.
