The role: Alternative Investments Analyst

  • We are looking for an experienced Analyst to join our Hedge Fund portfolio management team responsible for managing, monitoring and reporting on discretionary hedge fund portfolios.
  • The role will be focused on Mercer's flagship alternatives solutions as well as a broad range of alternative investments clients, with this role sitting in our London team with a global remit.
  • The successful candidate will support portfolio management and client relationship management responsibilities as part of a bundled or standalone alternatives investments engagement.
  • He/she will produce investment research deliverables and analytics with senior Alternatives investment oversight.

  • Preparing written reports on investment managers and their strategies including qualitative and quantitative analysis of a manager's investment strategy across a broad range of metrics.
  • Working to source and help maintain diverse universes of high conviction hedge fund strategies.

We will rely on you to:

  • Support the Portfolio Management team in monitoring selected managers across discretionary portfolios, as well as conduct and review quantitative and qualitative research using Mercer and third party data, including using in-house tools and databases for analysis.
  • Contribute to the development of appropriate responsible investment strategies for clients, drafting reports and presentations as appropriate.
  • Carry out performance measurement and risk management for Mercer alternatives portfolios and underlying managers.
  • Coordinate client reporting including the accurate and timely provision of investment and portfolio data as well as strategy and performance commentary.
  • Providing support on business development as required.
  • Liaising with other teams within Mercer Investments and across Mercer business segments.

What you need to have:

  • Relevant experience as a Research Analyst/Investment Analyst.
  • Bachelor (or higher) degree in finance, economics, mathematics, sciences or other business-related areas with strong quantitative and analytical course content or a minimum of 2 years practical experience.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, including a team-oriented approach that is expressed through strong oral and written communication skills.
  • Comfort working independently as part of a small team through a strong sense of initiative and ability to share relevant information and expertise.
  • Reliable technical and analytical skills, with high attention to detail and professionalism.
  • Strong planning and organisational skills, to prioritise tasks and manage resources within a deadline oriented environment.
  • Ability to think critically and challenge.

What makes you stand out:

  • Alternative Investments experience ideally (although not mandatory)
  • Relevant experience in analytical work, report writing and data analysis and modelling ideally within investment research.
  • Studying towards CFA, CAIA, or Actuarial Qualifications (or similar) would be advantageous.
  • Happy to learn, keen to support senior colleagues whilst getting exposure to clients and investment strategy decision making.
