Job Overview:

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an enthusiastic and motivated nurse with a passion for palliative care to join the Hospital Specialist Palliative Care team within Cardiff and Vale. We are looking to recruit a full time Macmillan Clinical Nurse Specialist.

This is a development role within the hospital team and you will be supported to develop skills and your education around the clinical assessment and management of cancer and non-cancer patients within the acute setting.

Our range of patients require diverse skills and thus in joining the team you will develop new skills and knowledge as you bringing your existing skills and knowledge to share with us.

You will be working closely with and supported by the wider multidisciplinary palliative care team of clinicians, clinical nurse specialists and therapies. You will have opportunity to contribute to education, research and service development to improve palliative and end of life within the acute setting.

You should have excellent interpersonal and communication skills as this role will include difficult conversations with patients and families and involve communicating with the wider palliative care services across Cardiff and Vale UHB and other agencies.

The role will require flexible working between hospital sites and you will need to work weekends and bank holidays as part of a rolling rota to assist in providing a seven-day service.

Main Duties Of The Job:

  • To work as an autonomous practitioner undertaking specialist assessment of palliative care patients within the acute setting
  • To develop a management plan in regards to appropriate symptom management or support that can be offered
  • To evaluate care and treatment outcomes
  • To provide clinical advice to all members of the multidisciplinary team, patients, carers and other agencies
  • To take part in a CNS rolling rota to cover the service over weekends and bank holidays
  • To contribute to the education, research and service evaluation agenda within the palliative care service.

The ability to speak Welsh is desirable for this role; Welsh and/or English speakers are equally welcome to apply.
