Position Overview

An exceptional opportunity has emerged for a skilled, dedicated, and enthusiastic nurse to take on the role of Youth Oncology Clinical Nurse Specialist (CNS) focusing on adolescents and young adults facing cancer challenges. This independent professional will be part of a prominent health organization, collaborating across various healthcare facilities in the region. The role involves strategic planning to ensure effective service delivery across multiple hospitals.

Key Responsibilities

The CNS will engage with a diverse team of healthcare professionals to guarantee that all young patients receive appropriate medical care and emotional support, irrespective of their treatment location.

The ideal candidate will champion high standards in nursing practice by delivering advanced nursing care to young individuals diagnosed with cancer. Operating within established protocols and guidelines, the CNS will facilitate a smooth and quality care pathway for young cancer patients from their initial admission through to discharge.

The CNS will adapt to various clinical environments to best meet the needs of young patients. They will play a crucial role in coordinating patient services, ensuring that these services are centered around the patient and align with the organization's philosophy.

In partnership with the Lead Clinician and Senior Nurse, the CNS will significantly contribute to the development and coordination of cancer services tailored for young individuals, bringing care closer to their homes.

The CNS will collaborate with the Senior Nurse and local Cancer Lead Nurses to provide focused and professional guidance for nursing staff caring for young cancer patients. The role will also involve an educational component aimed at enhancing the specialized knowledge of all professionals involved in the care of this demographic.

Proficiency in the Welsh language is preferred for this position; however, candidates who are fluent in English are also encouraged to apply.

Qualifications

Essential

  • Registered nurse with first-level certification
  • MSc or in progress
  • Evidence of continuous professional development
  • Experience in teaching and assessing in clinical settings

Desirable

  • Qualification in Non-Medical Prescribing

Experience

  • Demonstrable experience in hematology, oncology, palliative care, and/or youth cancer
  • Significant post-registration experience

Desirable

  • Experience managing a personal caseload in the relevant specialty
