Key Responsibilities

The Clinical Nurse Specialist in palliative care will operate within the community, delivering specialized, intermediate, and general palliative care tailored to the unique needs of patients, their caregivers, and families. This role will involve clinical accountability to a Consultant in Palliative Medicine and managerial oversight from the Lead Clinical Nurse Specialist.

Role Functions

  1. Collaborate as part of a specialized palliative care team and engage with primary healthcare professionals in the community.
  2. Develop and maintain professional relationships with healthcare providers and other palliative care teams across various settings.
  3. Actively promote holistic care initiatives within the community.
  4. Exhibit advanced clinical skills in patient care.

Communication and Relationship Management

Effectively communicate patient conditions and symptom management strategies to diverse groups, including:

  • Members of the Palliative Care Multi-Disciplinary Team (MDT).
  • Patients, caregivers, and families.
  • Other healthcare professionals involved in patient care.

Ensure accurate and timely documentation of patient records in compliance with professional and legal standards.

Qualifications and Experience

Applicants should possess:

  • A first-level nursing registration.
  • A Bachelor’s degree or equivalent qualification.
  • Evidence of ongoing professional development.
  • Experience in palliative care, particularly with cancer and non-cancer patients.

Professional Development

Engage in continuous professional development activities and contribute to the training of students and new staff members.

Participate in departmental performance reviews and assist in the organization of in-service training programs.
