Band 7 Advanced Urology Nurse Specialist
An exciting opportunity has emerged for two dedicated, adaptable, and motivated professionals to become part of our nurse specialist team as Band 7 Advanced Urology Nurse Specialists. The growth of our team will facilitate comprehensive service coverage throughout the week.
The positions will involve close collaboration with the multidisciplinary team (MDT), assisting with urology assessments, and managing urology patients in various settings including assessment units, outpatient clinics, and inpatient wards. Candidates should possess exceptional communication and organizational skills, as they will operate as independent practitioners managing their own patient caseload.
Proficiency in the Welsh language is preferred for this role; applications from both Welsh and English speakers are encouraged.
Key Responsibilities
The successful candidates will be expected to:
- Evaluate and manage patients in the Emergency Unit and Surgical Same Day Emergency Care (SSDEC) for a variety of urological emergencies, including urinary retention, renal colic, obstructed catheters, and nephrostomy tube management.
- Assist the University Health Board (UHB) in preventing unnecessary hospital admissions, enhancing patient safety, and improving overall patient experience.
- Oversee the daily care of a cohort of patients in close partnership with urology consultants.
- Function as an independent practitioner in the discharge process for patients undergoing specific urological assessments, ensuring timely reviews and discharges of clinically stable inpatients to optimize patient flow.
- Serve as a knowledgeable resource in both educational and clinical settings.
- Engage in collaborative research and audit initiatives within secondary healthcare.
- Contribute to the formulation and implementation of policies, procedures, and clinical protocols.

Qualifications
Essential Requirements:
- Registered Nurse with current registration from the Nursing and Midwifery Council.
- Degree-level qualification.
- Master’s degree or equivalent experience.
- Completion of Clinical Patient Assessment module.
- Completion of Independent Prescribing module.
Experience

- Extensive knowledge and experience in the field of urology.
- Familiarity with local and national policies related to urology service provision.
- Evidence of ongoing clinical expertise maintenance.
