An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced, motivated and committed individual to join Southview Psychologically Informed Planned Environment (PIPE) Approved Premise (AP) in York, as a Band 8a Clinical Lead. Southview PIPE AP is part of the Yorkshire and the Humber Offender Personality Disorder Pathway (YHPDP), and the successful candidate will primarily be based at Southview PIPE AP in York.

The Offender Personality Disorder Service (OPDS) is delivered in partnership with His Majesty's Prison and Probation Service (HMPPS) and provides support to prison and probation service has a focus on enabling progressive and trauma-informed ways of engaging people in difficult situations, to help improve the experience and outcomes for individuals who experience the world as profoundly unsafe (often associated with the diagnostic label of a 'personality disorder') and the staff working with them. Ideally, you will have experience of working within the criminal justice system and/or secure mental health care.

Main duties of the job

The successful candidate will hold a strategic position as Clinical Lead for the Psychologically Informed and Planned Environment (PIPE) at Southview Approved Premises. The post holder will work within LYPFT OPDS, together with the Probation Service Strategic and Operational Leads, to agree objectives and project plans for the implementation and ongoing development of the PIPE model and accreditation as an Enabling Environment (EE) at Southview.

The successful candidate will work 30 hours over four days per week and primarily be based at Southview Approved Premises in York.

Psychologically Informed Planned Environments (PIPEs) are specifically designed environments where staff members have additional training to help them develop an increased psychological understanding of their work. This understanding enables them to create an enhanced safe and supportive environment, which can facilitate the development of those who live there. They are designed to have a particular focus on the environment in which they operate; actively recognising the importance and quality of relationships and interactions. They aim to maximise learning opportunities within 'ordinary' living experiences and to approach these in a psychologically informed way, paying attention to interpersonal difficulties, for example those issues that might be linked to personality disorder.

Job description

Job responsibilities

The PIPE model incorporates six core components, which are designed to support and develop individuals living and working in a PIPE. The post-holder will lead in development and implementation of an agreed project plan to ensure delivery of these core PIPE components, working closely with the Probation Service (PS) AP/PIPE Operational Lead (Approved Premises Manager).

The Clinical Lead will provide teaching, training, and clinical supervision to staff at Southview Approved Premises to support their understanding and delivery of a psychologically informed service to male residents.

The Clinical Lead will supervise and oversee the development and implementation of structured activities and socially creative sessions that form part of the PIPE model.

The Clinical Lead will work with the Operational and Clinical Lead for OPD across Yorkshire and the Humber in the development of a high quality, responsive and accessible service including advising both service and professional management on those aspects of the service where psychological and/or organisational matters need addressing.

The Clinical Lead will liaise with OPD Pathway Commissioners and the LYPFT OPD Pathway Operational Manager in completion of key performance indicators and assessment and monitoring tools for the national evaluation of the PIPE, to provide regular performance data and project updates to commissioners.

The Clinical Lead will supervise and support the Assistant Psychologist attached to Southview Approved Premises.

The Clinical Lead will contribute to teaching, audit, research, and cross specialty initiatives relevant to the needs of the LYPFT Leeds Personality Disorder Service.

This post is primarily based in York but will also require regular travel across the Yorkshire and the Humber region and to London for National OPD PIPE meetings.

Doctoral level training in Clinical or Counselling Psy course accredited bychology (or equivalent prior to 1996) or at least masters level in Forensic psychology by the BPS and HCPC registration; Or Masters or above in a psychotherapy and accredited as a psychotherapist with UKCP or BPC (British Psychoanalytic Council)
