Job summary

Are you interested in the role of data in improving public health and helping to measure the value of investment in health?This post will join the newly formed Public Health Economics and Value team at an exciting time. We are putting in place a work programme which aims to generate evidence and provide support on sustainable and equitable investment in health, and the social value that health services can enable, working collaboratively with the wider NHS across Wales and with the World Health Organisation.

This role will be a crucial part of our team, helping us gather and analyse data from our existing projects as well as feeding into new workstreams. This is likely to include supporting work related to health economics, social value and international examples of good practice.

Main duties of the job

The main duties of this role provide analytical support to the health economics, data modelling, social value and international work streams through:

Problem solving by identifying appropriate methods, potential outcomes and data sources for specific queries.

Analytical thinking by data gathering, collation and analysis.

Creative thinking by developing innovative data visualisation and advocacy products.

Critical thinking by appraising and synthesising published evidence relevant for workstreams.

Collaborative thinking- working closely with colleagues in Public Health Wales, the wider NHS, the World Health Organization and academics nationally and internationally.

The ability to speak Welsh is desirable for this post; English and/or Welsh speakers are equally welcome to apply.

Job responsibilities

The successful candidate must meet all of the essential criteria to be considered for this role, including being able to evidence the practical application of data/ statistical analysis skills in a health or public health context and must hold a Bachelors Degree or equivalent in mathematics, statistics or operational research.

Experience of verbal and written communicating complex information including writing academic publications A proven track-record of data management and the management of projects delivering against targets Understanding of health economics and economic evaluation methodology Knowledge and experience of manipulating large and complex datasets Experience in conducting analysis in a field related to public health, and understanding the application of different types of data

Desirable

Skills & Abilities

Essential

Advanced IT skills with experience of using Microsoft Office applications - and particularly advanced MS Excel knowledge. Statistical analysis of complex information, using software packages such as Minitab, STATA or SPSS.
