Job summary

An exciting opportunity has arisen within the Dental Public Health team for a Senior Dental Officer with a full UK General Dental Council Registration to lead on the ongoing improvement and management of the annual All-Wales Dental Public Health Quality Assurance Self-Assessment (QAS) and contribute to overall Dental Quality and Safety system in Wales.

The successful candidate will work with a wide range of stakeholders in dentistry including Health Boards, Welsh Government, Health Improvement and Education Wales, NHS Wales Shared Services Partnership, Digital Health and Care Wales, Healthcare Inspectorate Wales, universities, dental services in Wales and possibly UK wide organisations working on oral health agendas to advice and support the implementation of the Health and Social Care (Quality and Engagement) (Wales) Act 2020 and relevant frameworks and guidance from the Welsh Government.

The post provides a real opportunity to work with a team of Consultants in Dental Public Health to collectively influence and inform dental policy, service planning and make contribution to ongoing quality improvement agenda in Wales.

Main duties of the job

Work with stakeholders in oral health and dentistry and contribute towards implementation of the Health and Social Care (Quality and Engagement) (Wales) Act 2020 and Welsh Government national framework and guidance for improving Quality and Safety in dentistry in Wales.

Lead on ongoing improvement and management of the annual Dental Public Health Quality Assurance Self-Assessment (QAS) system in Wales.

Produce an Annual Report on Quality and Safety in Dentistry in Wales.

Develop a mechanism to improve networking, multi stakeholder engagement and the sharing of learning between key stakeholders in Wales.

Explore opportunities to participate in relevant research and evaluation projects.

The ability to speak Welsh is desirable for this post; English and/or Welsh speakers are equally welcome to apply.

Job description

Job responsibilities

Lead on ongoing improvement and management of the annual All-Wales Dental Public Health Quality Assurance Self-Assessment (QAS) system, working closely with the key stakeholders in Wales, including Welsh Government, Health Boards and Digital Health & Care Wales.

Produce an Annual Report on Quality and Safety in Dentistry in Wales.

Engage with all key stakeholders regarding Quality and Safety in dentistry within Wales and develop a mechanism to improve networking, multistakeholder engagement and the sharing of learning between key stakeholders in Wales.

Contribute to Quality and Safety or Quality Improvement projects and networks.

Explore opportunities for research and evaluation projects in relation to the implementation of the Duty of Quality and relevant the national frameworks.

Contribute to other work areas within the Dental Public Health team.

Work with Health Education and Improvement Wales (HEIW) to support Health Boards, dental services and others on quality improvement and implementation of any change in of Quality and Safety monitoring.

As part of the Dental Public Health team contribute to the provision of public health advice and support to the Welsh Government, Local Health Boards, HEIW, NHS Business Services Authority and the NHS Wales Shared Services Partnership and a range of other organisations throughout Wales and beyond.

Qualifications

Essential

Bachelor of Dental Surgery, BDS/BChD or equivalent Full registration with the United Kingdom's General Dental Council (GDC) Masters in Public Health or equivalent

Further relevant qualifications CPD in relevant topics

Experience

Experience of working the General Dental service or Community Dental Service Experience of working with multiple stakeholders for delivery of a project Experience of report writing and presentation of findings to different stakeholders
