About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Lead Analyst to join our team at Public Health Wales. As a key member of our organization, you will play a critical role in developing and delivering complex analyses, exploiting both novel and well-known data sources.

Key Responsibilities
  • Communicating Complex Information: You will be responsible for communicating highly complex information effectively to both technical and non-technical audiences, using compelling stories through verbal, written, and visual presentations.
  • Leading Analytical Projects: You will lead the development, delivery, and communication of innovative, complex, multi-source analysis products to support Public Health Wales' agenda.
  • Providing Analytical Thought Leadership: You will offer guidance on innovative analytical techniques, data visualisation, modelling, and simulation, ensuring good practice in data and analytical communication.
  • Developing Partnerships and Relationships: You will build and maintain effective collaborations with stakeholders to understand system needs, using negotiation and communication skills to drive system-level improvement and create data-driven solutions.
  • Developing Analytics Strategies: You will work with senior stakeholders and experts to build understanding and insights, especially in areas where evidence or expert opinion varies.
  • Exploring Innovative Data Sources and Methodologies: You will identify and synthesise information from various sources to create quality analysis and fully exploit data in novel ways.
  • Leading Virtual Teams: You will provide technical leadership to multi-disciplinary teams, employing Agile methodologies to deliver high-quality analytical products swiftly.
  • Coding Expertise: You will develop reproducible analytical pipelines to deliver analytical products, ensuring good practice, including quality assurance, in your own and others' coding.
  • Innovative Tool Exploitation: You will develop strategies, policies, and procedures to utilize innovative tools, software packages, and analytical systems for analysis.
  • Building Analytical Capability: You will collaborate with stakeholders to identify capability gaps and create learning opportunities to address these gaps.
  • Active Senior Directorate Team Member: You will proactively share knowledge, learn from others, and support the directorate and Public Health Wales long-term strategy.
  • Confidentiality: You will respect and safeguard sensitive information.
  • Financial Management: You will work with PHW Procurement and Information Governance to commission and deliver analytical solutions that are value for money.

Essential Skills and Attributes

  • Effective Communication: You will be able to communicate complex information and insights effectively to both technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Complex Analytical Projects: You will have experience of developing and delivering complex analytical projects, leading multi-disciplinary teams to deliver high-quality analytical products at pace.
  • Partnerships and Relationships: You will have evidence of developing effective partnerships and relationships with stakeholders to understand system needs.
  • Innovative Data Sources and Methodologies: You will have experience of exploring and exploiting innovative data sources, methodologies, and software tools.
  • Coding Expertise: You will have proficiency in coding in R and/or Python, and in applying good practice to developing reproducible analytical pipelines.

Qualifications and Knowledge

  • Master's Degree: You will have a master's degree, or an equivalent level of knowledge and experience, that includes significant components related to complex analysis, statistics, and/or mathematics.
  • Continuing Professional Development: You will have evidence of continuing professional development and practical application of learning in analysis/statistics/economics.
  • Master's Level Knowledge: You will have master's level knowledge of applying statistical and/or economic methods, data analysis, and modelling, and experience of applying that knowledge effectively in real-life situations.
