The Wider Determinants of Health Unit of Public Health Wales is seeking an enthusiastic Public Health Consultant to work with us on a seconded basis for one day a week over a two year period. The position will support interagency collaboration through the Building a Healthier Wales Coordination Group. This group brings together senior leaders from across Wales to maximise the impact of collective efforts of agencies in Wales to improve health, well-being and equity

In this role you will provide public health strategic leadership aimed at ensuring the work of the partnership takes a population approach, supports prevention and the reduction of inequalities, and identifies co-benefits from action across sectors. You will develop effective relationships with members, Welsh Government colleagues, local public health teams, local government, and others in Public Health Wales. You will have a high degree of political awareness, working to influence policy and practice locally and nationally

This is a temporary post which may be taken up as a secondment
- provide public health leadership, advice and support to the Building a Healthier Wales programme.
- contribute to the development of integrated partnership strategy and plans (including consideration of need), working closely with agencies in multiple sectors, including local authority.
- provide expert public health advice and leadership to support and inform an evidence-based approach within ethical frameworks for partnership work, across sectors including health, local authority and voluntary agencies.
- develop and utilise information and intelligence systems to underpin public health action across disciplines and organisations, leading collation and interpretation of relevant data.
- actively work to reduce inequalities in partnership with the Welsh Government, NHS Wales, government agencies, national bodies, local authorities and the voluntary sector.
- develop relationships with partners and influence all agencies to improve health and reduce health inequalities through the Building a Healthier Wales programme.
- work closely with the senior leadership team within the Wider Determinants Unit to ensure public health support to all work
