Rainbows Hospice is currently seeking an enthusiastic Clinical Nurse Specialist in Children's Palliative Care to join our hospital-based team working across the East Midlands. We are continuing to expand and launch our exciting new range of services to meet the needs of more families across the region than ever before.

Within this role you will be providing clinical leadership and expertise in specialist palliative care alongside the existing palliative care services within the Leicestershire Hospitals. As well as this you will be supporting the ongoing development of the palliative care services in line with the Rainbows strategy.

Working Hours:

This is a full-time role, 37.5 hours per week, Monday to Friday, with on-call duties and occasional weekend work. The position is based in the Leicester Hospital of the LRI, with travel required to other Leicestershire Hospitals, the Hospice in Loughborough, and occasionally the community. Therefore, the ability to travel around the East Midlands independently is essential.

About the role

To provide clinical leadership and expertise in specialist palliative care alongside the existing palliative care services within the Leicestershire Hospitals.

Some of the key responsibilities include (but not limited to):

  • Provide information, support, advice and specialist knowledge to the families of babies, children and young people.
  • To act as a resource to the multi-professional team, to influence palliative care, symptom management and end of life care development.
  • To participate in the co-ordination of the care of babies, children and young people to ensure continuity throughout their care, facilitating palliative care in the chosen location, home, hospice or hospital.
  • To be pivotal in the review and development of the service in order to reflect the needs of all babies, children and young people with palliative care needs.
  • To influence care by providing specialist education and training to multi professional staff and students, statutory and voluntary agencies and undertaking research.
  • Replicate Rainbows values in all locations whilst working within the local policies procedures and guidance.

Requirements

  • Registered Children’s Nurse Degree or Equivalent.
  • Significant palliative care and experience of working with children and young people with complex needs.
  • Experience of supporting students within practice.
  • Proven leadership skills (Or quality improvement).
  • Experience of assessing complex symptoms.
