Position Overview

This position involves providing essential support to families navigating the complexities of caring for children with serious or terminal illnesses. The role requires travel between various healthcare facilities and participation in team meetings as necessary. The commitment is for 30 hours per week, with flexible scheduling available from Monday to Friday, including occasional weekend work based on service requirements.

Key Responsibilities

Rainbows Hospice is actively looking for a dedicated Family Support Specialist to enhance our team as we broaden our service offerings to better assist families in need. Families facing the challenges of serious health conditions often experience significant emotional and logistical hurdles. As a Family Support Specialist, you will be instrumental in guiding families through these difficult times, ensuring they are informed about available resources and can access the necessary support.

Your Role Will Include:

  • Providing ongoing emotional support to families during challenging periods.
  • Serving as a liaison among the multi-disciplinary team, parents, children, and young individuals.
  • Offering guidance and practical assistance to help families navigate available services, including charity support and financial advice.
  • Addressing the unique needs of families, considering cultural, ethnic, and spiritual factors.
  • Collaborating with other professionals and agencies to ensure seamless care for families.

Candidate Profile

The ideal candidate will possess a relevant NVQ qualification or equivalent and have a solid understanding of safeguarding practices. Experience working with children and young people with palliative care needs, as well as providing emotional and bereavement support, is essential. Due to the travel requirements of this role, having access to personal transportation is preferred.

Qualifications Required

Essential Qualifications:

  • Relevant NVQ level 2/3 or equivalent.

Essential Experience:

  • Experience working with families.
  • Background in supporting children/young people with palliative care or special needs.
  • Proven experience in providing emotional and/or bereavement support.
  • Valid driver's license and access to a vehicle.

Desirable Experience:

  • Experience managing a caseload.
