Job summary

JOB SUMMARY

To provide and promote the highest possible standard of care based on professionally determined standards and accept accountability for the patient as an individual, providing autonomy.

Demonstrate leadership that will encourage and promote effective teamwork.

Support, innovative clinical practice contributing to implementing nursing policies based on National and Local strategies for Health Care.

To assist through all clinical areas to meet service need and professional development.

Main duties of the job

1. Arrange and co-ordinate the reception, admission, transfer and nurse led discharge of patients

2. Assess, plan, implement and evaluate programmes of care within specialism

senior level of skill proficiency for competent assistance during a broad range of diagnostic, therapeutic and complex endoscopic procedures.

3. Establish a safe working environment for patients and staff .and ensure patient dignity is compromised as little as possible

4. Maintain the appropriate documentation - care pathway documents, brief /debrief documents and electronic records.

5. Assist in the investigation of all incidents, accidents to all patients, visitors or staff and implement the clinical incident reporting process.

6. Demonstrate advanced knowledge of endoscopic and specialist equipment, the function and application of all endoscopes and systems, potential malfunctions and hazards of endoscopic equipment / substances and corrective action

7. Take responsibility for a group of patients and act as team leader where appropriate, co-ordinating the utilisation of staff/ operating lists. Co-ordinate and participate in safe transfer and positioning of patients

8. Assist and coordinate in the cleaning of clinical areas and equipment, ensuring that the area is clear of potential hazards

Job description

Job responsibilities

1. Communicate with patients, visitors and colleagues by telephone, face to face, in writing or electronically to ensure the effective running of the service this can be both complex and sensitive including patients with special needs.

2. Co-operate and communicate with members of the multi-disciplinary team sensitive information concerning the patients medical condition.

3. Participate in regular staff / unit meetings.

4. Ensure that important information relating to the patients physical condition or which would affect the nursing care is related to the appropriate personnel and act as link nurse between the unit and other departments.

5. Conducts self professionally and according to policy during distressing/ emotional circumstances when dealing with patients, relatives and visitors

EDUCATION AND DEVELOPMENT

1. Attend mandatory training and reviews as local policy.

2. Participate in performance review process and achieve objectives.

3. Contribute to the development of the service, analyse and reflect upon the value of professional experiences to improve own and others professional practice.

4. Act as Assessor and preceptor for all learners and support practitioners in their role as co mentor / assessor

5. Participate in or lead in training and teaching programmes.

6. Be actively involved in appropriate groups and working parties to develop both professionally and individually and to meet service needs.

7. Undertake clinical supervision of junior staff

10. Undertake appraisals of junior staff

11. Support Charge Nurse in managing sickness/absence and HR processes when required

Attainment

Essential

Education/Qualifications Registered Nurse Experience Recent Acute Hospital Experience Able to prioritise and plan workload. Proven ability to plan and comply with detailed procedures. Clear and accurate record keeping Communication clear and accurate written/verbal communication. Good IT skills. Good presenting skills Flexibility Able to work the hours required by the need of the service. Able to work across ELHT sites. Able to adapt to changing needs of the service. People Skills Proven ability to work within a team and be an effective leader. Ability to support the team

Desirable

Teaching / Assessing Qualification Endoscopy Experience post registration Endoscopy related courses Audit skills. Sickness/Absence management skills. Proven to work effectively within the team. Hr management
