Job summary

We are seeking a motivated individual with excellent leadership skills and a minimum of two years' critical care, acute care or A&E experience at band 6 or 7, to join our well-established and highly regarded Critical Care Outreach and Resuscitation Service (CCOARS). In collaboration with the Outreach Consultant, this practitioner-led service provides expert care to critically unwell and deteriorating patients, whilst supporting the ward teams and wider MDT. The team delivers a robust resuscitation training programme, contributing to audit, quality improvement and patient safety initiatives across the Trust.

As a CCOARS practitioner, you will be delivering patient care in a variety of clinical settings, assessing, developing and implementing a management plan, and treating patients in collaboration with the multi-disciplinary team. Good knowledge on the management of patients with tracheostomy tubes and Non-Invasive Ventilation (NIV) is also required.

The role includes a strong educational element with the delivery of resuscitation training, tracheostomy, NIV and the ALERT course to all grades of Trust staff, therefore excellent teaching and assessment skills are required. You will also be expected to respond to Emergency calls as a specialist member of the Resuscitation team.

The possession of excellent interpersonal skills is imperative, as well as a robust clinical background with a Critical Care or equivalent professional qualification.

Main duties of the job

Provide a Critical Care Outreach and Resuscitation service in conjunction with the Critical Care Consultants and Trust Resuscitation lead.

To facilitate the provision of high quality specialist care to all patients with a diagnosis of Critical illness.

To avert admissions to Critical Care by timely recognition and intervention, or to ensure that admissions to Critical Care are timely

To enable discharge from Critical Care by supporting the continuing recovery of discharged patients on wards

To act as a resource to other professionals on Critical Care and associated treatments and issues.

To deliver a programme of resuscitation training to ensure all Trust staff are trained to an appropriate level which meets the mandatory training requirements.

Actively develop and promote the service through teaching and supervision. Develop policies, guidelines, audit and research to facilitate the development of the service.

Person Specification

Education/ qualifications

Essential

Experienced Registered Health Care Practitioner at Band 6 or above (RN, RGN,HCPC. Degree in Nursing / Health Related subject, or working towards this. Professional clinical qualification in a Critical Care associated speciality or equivalent and appropriate experience in a critical or emergency care area. RCUK ILS/ALS provider.

Desirable

Leadership qualification or equivalent experience. Post registration teaching and assessing qualification. Masters in Nursing/ Health Related subject, or working towards this. Advanced Assessment skills course.

Experience

Essential

Able to demonstrate highly developed specialist knowledge of own patient group. Knowledge of research and audit including implementation of findings and review of outcomes. Ability to practice within the scope of relevant professional body.

Desirable

Leadership skills.

Essential

Structured teaching (lecturing) skills. Evidence of applying current research to practice. Able to manage difficult situations effectively Able to use own initiative to prioritise and meet deadlines.
