Job summary

An exciting opportunity has arisen to work as a member of our team in Education and Learning Department. We are looking for a highly motivated and enthusiastic individual to provide comprehensive secretarial and administrative support to the Medical Education Team.

The postholder will provide administrative support within the Medical Education team to the Head of Academy and the undergraduate and postgraduate teams for obstetrics & gynaecology. The postholder will be expected to maintain effective liaison and communication with the University of Birmingham and Aston University Medical Schools, Academy staff, medical students, postgraduate doctors and other outside agencies where required. Responsibilities of the post include the recruitment of examiners, co-ordination of medical examinations, allocation of students to consultant teams and Senior Academic Tutors, student induction, preparation of timetables, recruitment of lecturers for the UGME & PGME teaching programmes and the collation of student and doctor information packs. The postholder will be expected to help and assist students and doctors during their attachments at Birmingham Women's & Children's NHS Foundation Trust and will be one of the first points of contact for them.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will not have direct professional responsibilities, however will be expected to work at a high level. Personal initiative is required to make decisions regarding workload priorities, student enquiries, general telephone enquiries and diary conflicts. Initiative has to be used to deal with matters where ever possible or to decide when to refer non-routine matters to the next level. Discretion when dealing with staff and students is required at all times.

The post holder will also support the Education Centre Teams to ensure that the Education Centre runs smoothly and efficiently, ensuring that the facilities for education delivery are maintained to ensure a high quality service.
