The paediatric Acute Neurology service covers multiple areas of neurology. King's College Hospital is a paediatric trauma centre, neurosurgical centre and has a growing neurology team. The paediatric neurology physiotherapy team carries a varied caseload that has more than doubled in the last 18 months. The successful candidate will have experience in service development and be able to support the existing team in effectively managing the clinical demands while providing a high quality postholder will have experience in neuro-paediatrics from an acute background with the majority of patients located across acute wards and ICU, HDU.

King's College Hospital is one of the largest POSCU's (Paediatric Oncology Shared Care Unit) in the South-East of England. Children present with a range of diagnoses. The successful candidate will have knowledge of treating childhood cancer conditions, with understanding of different treatment modalities and subsequent impact on childhood and development. The clinical area is growing and the lead role will be instrumental in ensuring the service keeps up with the pace of change and more advanced care in coming years.

Main duties of the job

To be a physiotherapy clinical expert in the management of paediatric acute neurology and oncology patients for inpatient, and outpatient paediatric servicesincluding appropriate highly specialist skills. To provide supervision and clinical support to the inpatient neurology and oncology paediatric physiotherapy team to meet individual and service needs. To be responsible for clinical leadership and service development within the paediatric physiotherapy services and shape these services appropriately to respond to growing & changing clinical landscapes and the development of more advanced care options To use expert physiotherapy knowledge and advanced clinical reasoning skills to provide highly specialist support and advice to the paediatric physiotherapy & wider MDT team and to manage own caseload of patients with highly complex conditions as an autonomous practitioner. To work with the paediatric neurology and oncology therapy team to ensure a high quality, effective and efficient service to patients presenting with acute neurological and oncology conditions. Job responsibilities

This clinical lead role will work with the multidisciplinary team to ensure an excellent standard of physiotherapy is delivered to the acute paediatric neurology and oncology services at King's College Hospital. The post holder will supervise the paediatric physiotherapy staff, hold an inpatient clinical caseload and as required deliver outpatient clinics.

They will be responsible for ongoing teaching and development to the therapy and MDT and assist in development of the wider MDT as part of the Children's Therapy team.

Person Specification

Education and Qualification

Essential

To have a degree or other recognised qualification in Physiotherapy Working at a Masters level, as demonstrated by ongoing CPD (including M level), evidence-based project work, external post graduate lecturing HCPC Registered

Desirable

Member of the Chartered Society of Physiotherapy (CSP) MSc in a clinically relevant or related area

Knowledge and Experience

Essential

Significant post graduate paediatric experience including, neurodevelopment, neurology, respiratory care, musculoskeletal and orthopaedics Specialist experience in the management of acute neurology, oncology & rehabilitation of paediatric patients Highly specialist knowledge and experience of a wide range of treatment modalities and approaches to the management of complex and chronic conditions associated with the specialties & the impact of these on childhood development Specialist experience in early intervention Experience of setting up a service
