As an SEMH Teaching Assistant, you’ll work alongside teachers, SENCOs and support staff to provide personalised assistance to students aged 11 - 16 who face barriers to learning. Your role will be vital in helping these students engage with their education, build resilience and succeed both academically and personally.


 

Key responsibilities:


 

  • Provide 1:1 and small group support for students with SEMH needs 
  • Assist in classroom activities, ensuring a safe and inclusive learning environment
  • Help students regulate their emotions and behaviour using de-escalation strategies
  • Collaborate with teaching staff to implement EHCPs and tailored support strategies
  • Promote students’ emotional wellbeing and foster positive behaviour and social skills
  • Monitor and report on student progress to the SENCO and teachers


 

Who we’re looking for:


 

  • Experience working with young people with SEMH or other special educational needs in a school, youth work or a care setting
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to build positive relationships with students and staff
  • A calm, patient and nurturing approach to supporting young people
  • Ability to manage challenging behaviour in a positive and non-confrontational manor
  • Flexibility, resilience and a passion for improving the lives of young people
  • Able to drive and have access to your own car
  • Desirable: relevant qualifications (e.g Level 2 or 3 Teaching Assistant)
