As an SEMH Teaching Assistant, you’ll work alongside teachers, SENCOs and support staff to provide personalised assistance to students aged 11 - 16 who face barriers to learning. Your role will be vital in helping these students engage with their education, build resilience and succeed both academically and personally.
Key responsibilities:
- Provide 1:1 and small group support for students with SEMH needs
- Assist in classroom activities, ensuring a safe and inclusive learning environment
- Help students regulate their emotions and behaviour using de-escalation strategies
- Collaborate with teaching staff to implement EHCPs and tailored support strategies
- Promote students’ emotional wellbeing and foster positive behaviour and social skills
- Monitor and report on student progress to the SENCO and teachers
Who we’re looking for:
- Experience working with young people with SEMH or other special educational needs in a school, youth work or a care setting
- Strong communication skills and the ability to build positive relationships with students and staff
- A calm, patient and nurturing approach to supporting young people
- Ability to manage challenging behaviour in a positive and non-confrontational manor
- Flexibility, resilience and a passion for improving the lives of young people
- Able to drive and have access to your own car
- Desirable: relevant qualifications (e.g Level 2 or 3 Teaching Assistant)
