A highly reputable Special Educational Needs (SEN) school group is seeking a dedicated and passionate English Teacher to join their Alternative Provision team based in Totnes. This unique opportunity offers the chance to make a real impact on the lives of young people who require tailored education in a nurturing and supportive environment.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Deliver high-quality English lessons to students with special educational needs and/or social, emotional, and mental health (SEMH) challenges.
  • Plan, prepare, and implement engaging lessons that meet the individual needs of students in line with the national curriculum.
  • Assess and monitor student progress, providing appropriate feedback to support their educational development.
  • Collaborate with the wider multi-disciplinary team, including SEN specialists, therapists, and support staff, to ensure each student’s needs are fully met.
  • Foster a positive and inclusive learning environment that promotes personal growth, resilience, and emotional well-being.
  • Engage with parents, carers, and external professionals to support students' academic and personal development.

Requirements:

  • Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) or equivalent teaching qualification.
  • Experience teaching English at secondary level (KS3/KS4) with a strong understanding of the national curriculum.
  • Proven experience working with students who have SEN and/or SEMH needs, preferably in an alternative provision or SEN setting.
  • Strong classroom management skills and the ability to differentiate instruction to meet individual learning needs.
  • Empathy, patience, and a commitment to fostering a supportive and inclusive learning environment.
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills to work effectively with students, staff, and external partners.

Desirable:

  • Experience in working within a multi-disciplinary team.
  • Additional training or qualifications in SEN/SEMH education.
  • Experience using restorative or trauma-informed approaches to behavior management.
