Role Overview:

As a SEN Teaching Assistant, you will play a vital role in supporting the educational and developmental needs of students with Special Educational Needs (SEN). This position is ideal for individuals passionate about inclusive education and committed to making a positive impact on students' lives.

Key Responsibilities:

Classroom Support:

  • Assist teachers in planning and delivering tailored lessons that meet the diverse needs of students with SEN.
  • Provide individual and group support during lessons, helping students understand and engage with the curriculum.
  • Prepare and organize teaching materials and resources, ensuring they are accessible and effective for students with SEN.

Student Support:

  • Work closely with students who require additional assistance, providing targeted support to enhance their academic and social skills.
  • Conduct small group and one-on-one sessions to address specific educational needs and learning gaps.
  • Support students' emotional and social development, fostering a positive and inclusive classroom environment.

Behavior and Emotional Support:

  • Assist in managing classroom behavior, promoting a respectful and productive learning atmosphere.
  • Implement behavior management strategies to support students in developing self-discipline and positive attitudes toward learning.
  • Provide emotional support to students, helping them develop resilience and effective coping strategies.

Special Educational Needs (SEN) Support:

  • Collaborate with the Special Educational Needs Coordinator (SENCO) to support students with additional learning needs.
  • Develop and implement individualized support plans for students with SEN, monitoring their progress and adjusting strategies as needed.
  • Work closely with teachers and other professionals to ensure a cohesive approach to supporting students with SEN.

Assessment and Feedback:

  • Monitor and record students' progress, providing regular feedback to teachers and other relevant staff members.
  • Assist in assessing students' work and offer constructive feedback to help them improve their skills and understanding.
  • Help prepare reports and documentation related to students' academic and personal development.

Collaboration and Communication:

  • Communicate effectively with parents and guardians, providing updates on students' progress and well-being.
  • Participate in staff meetings, training sessions, and professional development opportunities to stay informed about best practices in SEN support.
  • Work collaboratively with teachers, SENCO, and other school staff to ensure a supportive learning environment.

Requirements:

  • Previous experience working with secondary school students with SEN is highly desirable.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build positive relationships with students, staff, and parents.
  • Patience, empathy, and a supportive approach to working with young people.
  • Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple tasks effectively.
