Job summary
The Information Governance team helps Trust staff to manage personal and sensitive patient, staff and business information legally, securely, efficiently and effectively to deliver the best possible healthcare and services by making sure that that IG guidance is clear and consistent for everyone.
We build trust and confidence by the application of fair, balanced and proportionate policies, processes and risk-based decision-making. This helps to assure the confidence of the public, other stakeholders and partners at national and local levels in how the Trust meets its data protection obligations.
One of our key priorities is to continue to mature the IG culture and assurances of the whole Trust. The team works across the organisation, supporting cross-departmental activity, incorporating collaborative working across Digital Health Teams and other Trust departments to optimise the value of information. The scope of IG covers managing Data Protection, Confidentiality, Data Quality, Records Management and Information Security Risks.
The Information Governance Officer role is a key member of this small, busy team and will support colleagues, within the team and across the wider Trust, in making sure that we protect information and use it as our patients and other stakeholders would expect.
Main duties of the job
This role is a key part of the IG team's capacity to develop Trust-wide Information Governance maturity and deliver the Trust's Information Governance framework and work assurance programme.
As a member of the IG team, the post holder works with multi-disciplinary staff and help develop, implement and maintain robust IG programmes, ensuring that the Trust meets its statutory and regulatory post holder will assist the IG Assurance Manager and the wider IG Team in day-to-day implementation of the Trust's IG work assurance programmes and risk and projects management framework, including the Data Security and Protection Toolkit.
With the advice of the wider IG team, they will be providing regular IG support, advice and guidance to staff. The role will require the applicant to develop and maintain good working relationships with relevant stakeholders within and outside the organisation.
Other main duties include:
Assist Trust staff by providing the necessary knowledge and skills to undertake their roles whilst meeting IG and data protection related requirements and good practice. Work with colleagues to design, develop and implement IG risk and good practice assessments, mitigating any identified risks through good practice, protocol and SOP recommendations. Collaborate across the Trust to ensure that it meets its legal IG compliance obligations ensuring that personal and sensitive data are handled appropriately to ensure the safe delivery of patient care.

Job responsibilities
Assist the Information Governance Assurance Manager in all matters relating to information governance and in the implementation of the IG Framework, IG action plan and any new IG related regulations. Assist the Information Governance Assurance Manager, Senior Information Risk Owner and Caldicott Guardian with the day-to-day management and implementation of the Trusts IG compliance. To assist the Information Governance Assurance Manager in ensuring the Trust meets its obligation towards Information governance compliance ensuring that personal and sensitive data are handled appropriately to ensure the safe delivery of patient care. Provide information governance guidance and support to Trust staff, helping to provide the necessary knowledge and skills to undertake their roles in accordance with information governance related requirements and good practice. To consult the Information Governance Assurance Manager or Head of Information Governance & Data Protection Officer where complex issues are identified. To assist the Information Governance Assurance Manager in developing and maintaining the IG departmental intranet site. To assist the Information Governance Managers in carrying out spot checks and ensuring that IG related leaflets are widely distributed. Work with the Information Governance Managers, Health Records Library, IT and project team members as well as other staff to design, develop and implement information governance risk and good practice assessments. To assist in mitigating identified risks as advised by the Information Governance Managers through good practice, protocol and SOP recommendations. To assist in reviewing and evaluating and proposing changes to IG policies, procedures and processes across the Trust and identifying areas for improvement.Please refer to the Job Description for the full specification of responsibilities and requirements for this post.
