Business Development Manager
Reporting to: Head of Sales
Location: Manchester (Hybrid – 3 days in the office, 2 days remote)
Contract: Permanent, Full Time
Are you a dynamic and driven professional with a proven track record in account management? Spectrum Brands is seeking a passionate Business Development Manager to join our Manchester-based team.
This exciting role focuses on managing and growing partnerships with national wholesale partners who serve a diverse base of independent retailers, buying groups, and smaller retail chains across the UK. Working cross-functionally, you will build distribution networks, develop joint business plans, and evaluate opportunities for impactful display solutions.
Based from our head office near Oldham, this hybrid position will require regular travel to customer locations throughout the UK, for which a company car will be provided.
The Role
Strategic Account Growth:
- Develop and implement strategies to grow sales & profit with existing partner wholesaler accounts, whilst identifying opportunities with new routes to market/customers.
- Secure breadth of ranging by targeting second-tier brands and increasing our brands' visibility in stores and online platforms.
- Collaborate with wholesale sales teams to drive distribution and implement display solutions.
Forecasting & Analysis:
- Accurately forecast customer demand, considering lead times, seasonality, and promotional plans.
- Analyse financial viability and prioritise opportunities to ensure ROI across short-, medium-, and long-term horizons.
- Provide actionable insights to support decision-making.
Customer Relationship Management:
- Ensure excellent service levels, aiming for 95% on-time delivery in collaboration with logistics and forecasting teams.
- Build and maintain strong, trusting relationships with customers at all levels.
- Conduct regular account visits to ensure adherence to contact plans and sustain relationships.
Budget & Promotional Management:
- Manage promotional budgets to maximise ROI.
- Evaluate promotional outcomes and adjust strategies to optimise impact.
Team Collaboration:
- Work cross-functionally to align strategies and deliver results efficiently.
- Represent Spectrum Brands’ values of integrity, agility, and excellence internally and externally.
About You
We are looking for a results-driven, entrepreneurial professional who thrives in a fast-paced environment. Ideally, you have:
- A minimum of 2 years’ experience in a field sales or account management role.
- A proven track record in growing accounts, with excellent relationship-building skills.
- Experience within the independent retail sector or small domestic appliances (SDA) or electric personal care (EPC) categories.
- A commercial mindset, attention to detail, and confidence in using financial and forecasting tools.
- A hunter mentality, with a focus on creating sustainable change and delivering results.
- A robust academic background, with strong achievement in Mathematics and English.
- Passion, enthusiasm, and a "can-do" attitude.
