About the Role

This position involves providing high-quality nursing care to patients in a correctional setting. As a Licensed Practical Nurse with the Commonwealth of Virginia, you will have the opportunity to work closely with a diverse range of individuals and develop your skills in a fast-paced environment.

Your Key Responsibilities

  • Provide evidence-based nursing care utilizing the nursing process, principles, practices, and techniques of general nursing care.
  • Screen for sick call, administer medications, and provide first aid and basic life support as needed.
  • Maintain open lines of communication with security and treatment staff while providing input and feedback to assist in organizing a treatment plan.
  • Record all pertinent information into the medical record.
  • Interact with other departments as needed.
  • Promote continued competence through education and certification with a focus on correctional nursing.
  • Nurses must be able to work hours, days, and locations as assigned and be capable and available to provide coverage as needed to meet institutional needs.

Requirements

To be successful in this role, you will need to possess:

  • A valid unrestricted Virginia Licensed Practical Nursing (LPN) license issued by the board of nursing or a multi-state compact license.
  • Graduate of an accredited school of nursing.
  • Demonstrated ability to screen complaints of physical ailments and refer necessary cases to other medical professionals.
  • Ability to maintain appropriate documentation, provide first aid, and carry out providers' orders in applying treatments.
  • Ability to follow oral and written instructions and to administer practical nursing care.
  • Certified Basic Life Support (BLS) for health care providers with current certification through American Heart Association (AHA) or American Red Cross (ARC).
