About the Job

In this role, you will be responsible for providing evidence-based nursing care to patients, utilizing the nursing process, principles, practices, and techniques of general nursing care as determined by Standards of Practice under the direction of a Registered Nurse.




  • Screen patients for sick call and administer medications as needed.
  • Provide first aid and basic life support to patients and employees as required.
  • Maintain open lines of communication with security and treatment staff while providing input and feedback to assist the facility provider in organizing a treatment plan.
  • Record all pertinent information into the medical record.
  • Interact with other departments as needed.
  • Promote continued competence through education/certification with a focus on correctional nursing.


Requirements

To be successful in this role, you will need to have:




  • A graduate degree from an accredited school of nursing.
  • A valid unrestricted Virginia Licensed Practical Nursing (LPN) license issued by the board of nursing or a multi-state compact license.
  • Working knowledge of principles, practices, and techniques of practical or general nursing care.
  • Demonstrated ability to screen complaints of physical ailments and refer necessary cases to other medical professionals.
  • Ability to maintain appropriate documentation, provide first aid, and carry out providers' orders in applying treatments.
  • Ability to follow oral and written instructions and to administer practical nursing care.
  • Certified Basic Life Support (BLS) for health care providers with current certification through American Heart Association (AHA) or American Red Cross (ARC).


Additional Considerations

While not required, experience working in a corrections or law enforcement environment, or related training in delivery of general nursing and emergency medical care, may be beneficial in this role.
