Job Description for Construction Coordinator (Trainee):

As a key member of our Engineering team, you'll have the opportunity to work on a wide range of projects, from refurbishment to new build and modification, on our Sellafield site.

The role of the construction coordinator (Trainee) is to support the construction team in the execution of the construction stages of the projects while undertaking accredited training and gaining on-the-job experience. When full SQEP status is achieved, you'll be responsible for ensuring all contractors employed on our projects execute works in a safe and timely manner and adhere to all regulatory, management, and contractual arrangements.

Main Responsibilities for Construction Coordinator (Trainee):

  • Develop and implement construction strategies and phase plans.
  • Estimate and schedule site works, ensuring timely completion and adherence to budget.
  • Inspect and accept contractors' completed works, ensuring they meet engineering and construction design specifications and standards.
  • Produce final handover documentation, ensuring a smooth transition of projects.
  • Ensure all specified construction and installation standards are met, including surveillance and inspection.
  • Promote a positive health and safety culture on site, ensuring safe working practices are adhered to.
  • Monitor contractors' compliance with controlling documents, ensuring accurate and timely submission.
  • Manage resources effectively, ensuring Suitably Qualified Experienced Person (SQEP) personnel are utilized and costs are controlled.
  • Ensure all construction activities comply with National Nuclear Laboratory and UK legal requirements, including Nuclear Site License Conditions.
  • Provide constructability input to the design process, ensuring projects are feasible and cost-effective.
  • Produce and maintain construction phase plans and strategies, ensuring up-to-date information is available.
  • Maintain harmonious industrial relations, ensuring a positive working environment.
  • Develop and improve relationships with key stakeholders and suppliers, ensuring effective communication and collaboration.
  • Improve construction safety performance, meeting company targets and ensuring a safe working environment.

Essential Criteria for Construction Coordinator (Trainee):

  • Hold a minimum NVQ 3 or equivalent in an engineering, electrical, or construction discipline, or have a trade background with a recognized apprenticeship.
  • Have experience working on a nuclear site, with excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Be a self-starter, able to take responsibility and work with minimal supervision, often under pressure, with excellent organizational skills.
  • Be able to multitask and re-prioritize to meet changing needs and project deadlines in a team environment.
  • Ability to obtain DV level security clearance, including identity, employment, financial, criminal record checks, interview, and 10 years of UK residency.

Desirable Criteria for Construction Coordinator (Trainee):

  • Experience in electrical installations.
  • Previous supervisory experience.
  • NEBOSH general or construction certificate.
